Headband bobs but I found a fix
4 out of 5 stars
Headband bobs but I found a fix
These definitely aren't 100% perfect (for me) but were the best of several I tried out and I've been happy with them over the last 1.5 months. I was looking to go Bluetooth for running so that was my main focus when looking at features, but I also wanted to try them for making phone calls while walking since my regular earbuds for listening to music don't have a built-in mic.Running: These aren't the most comfortable fit in my ears ever (I much prefer the tips on my Bose earbuds -- the ones with the little wing that curls up off the bud to hug you ear) but they do the trick and aren't uncomfortable! Sometimes adjusting the angle of the part around the back of my ears will help them settle in a little more comfortably. Once on, they don't slip off while I'm running. I do find, though, that the band in the back is longer than I'd like and bobs up and down as I run, which I found annoying and it made me afraid they were going to bounce right off my ears. I found a fix, though, which is just securing the big loop around the back to the underside of my hair with a bobby pin or hairclip. I'm sure it looks awkward but it does the trick when I'm running. I'm a little worried that bending and clipping the strap like that will make the wires inside wear down more quickly but so far that hasn't been a problem.Walking & talking on phone: I could hear well and while I haven't been on the receiving end to confirm sound quality, I asked the person on the line a few times about the quality and all said pretty good. It's hard to make calls if it's windy though, as the mic will really pick that up. When walking, even at a brisk pace, I didn't find the bobbing headstrap to be as much of a problem as while running but occasionally I can feel it. I also find if my hair is down it'll tend to get in the way and knock the piece off my ear sometimes. I'm definitely happier with these as running headphones than for day-to-day use but I just switch out my wired Bose ones when I'm out and want to switch from listening to music to making a call.Other: I really like that when you turn them on a voice tells you your battery level and whether they're connected to a device. SO much easier than trying to remember how many flashes mean "battery low" or "connected" like the signals on some other Bluetooth headphones are. I also haven't had any problems with the bluetooth connection. Sure, once in a while I'll get a random disruption but they're infrequent and the connection is generally problem-free with the headphones on my ears and my phone in a fanny pack around my back or in an armband. When I get home sometimes I keep listening to whatever I had on and I've left my phone on a counter and walked around my entire (small one-bedroom) apartment and usually the connection stays fine throughout. I always seem to forget which button does what and inevitably have to take them off to look and remind myself. Maybe that means the controls aren't intuitive or maybe it just means I need to study the user's manual and learn the damn things! Occasionally when adjusting them on my ears I'll accidentally hit a button but for the most part that hasn't been an issue. I haven't worn these to the gym yet but have a feeling they may let in too much noise there. I like being able to hear some ambient noise when I'm running but I think at a gym with loud music these might not be loud enough. Lastly, I kinda wish it just came with a regular case instead of this one that converts to an armband. Because I already owned a running armband I would prefer a regular case! I will probably cut the strap out. Having the strap on there means you either have to shove your headphones in there with the strap in the way, or to have a pouch that's empty inside you have the strap on the outside. I'm sure this would do the trick as an armband but it's missing a lot of the features my dedicated running armband has. It's not very streamlined, you can't use a touchscreen phone without unzipping and pulling the whole phone out, and the strap looks to me like it might slip especially if you're sweaty. I'm attaching a photo of the case in armband mode so you get a better idea what I mean.

Ok, so as a preface I'd like to explain my listening habits first so you can determine whether you would find these headphones as awesome as I did. First off, I am no audiophile, I used to listen just fine to my iPhone ear buds and I never complained. However, I have recently gotten into high-end headphones, like the Sony MDR-1RBT. I love fancy pants headphones; but when I'm working out I HATE not being able to hear things around me like cars, pedestrians, dogs, meteorites, and small nuclear explosions.

    Pros:
    - Wonderful fit, never come loose and stay put on my ears
    - Awesome colors ( I got the blue ones)
    - Great sound which still allows ambient noise in so I don't die.
    - Very light and compact, I actually forget I'm wearing them
    - Very few buttons, and awesome control scheme which is easy to learn and reduces number of buttons (explained later)
    - Long battery life, I haven't tested the actual duration, but after working out with them for 4 days for at least an hour each day they were still had a medium charge on them.
    - Wireless; this is the whole reason I got these, no snagging wires on weights, no flopping cords while on the treadmill or while running outside

    Cons:
    - Spendy, but totally worth it to me
    - Neck strap can get in the way of a collar, but if you need to wear a hat (like a winter hat) I found that it is easy to tuck it up under it.
    - Nothing else really, so awesome

    The fit:

Ok, so first off, the fit is remarkable. I love it. It is exactly what I was looking for. The ear hook really secures the headphones to your head and make it so it stays put. You could do cartwheels with these on with no problems. Some reviewers said that the bouncing neck strap annoyed them. I ran cross country and track in high school and in college and I currently am training for the Boston, NYC, and Chicago marathons. So, basically, I'm a pretty serious runner and the neck strap never bothered me at all. If you tuck your chin down when you're running it might make the strap bounce more but I run with my head level and the strap basically hovers just above my neck or rests on it and it's like wearing a pair of socks to me, I forget I have it on after a few seconds.

    The sound:

I hate earphones that go into my ear canal. These sit just outside it and to me they sound great. I listen mainly to audio books and music and both sounded great to me. I had them set to about 75% volume and my phone volume was in the safe zone (Samsung Note 4) and I was able to hear my books and music just fine. This was in a busy gym with a few treadmills going and people talking all over the place. The design enables you to hear things going on around you which is what I wanted since I do a lot of running outside and I wanted to be able to hear that guy coming up behind me, trying to take my wallet, that way I'd be able to speed up and leave him in the dust.

This design does make it harder to hear your audio when you're doing noisy tasks like shoveling the snow in the driveway, or washing dishes with the water running, etc., but I have some over-the-ear headphones which are much better at passive noise cancellation and I use them for these applications.

    Comfort:

    - They are designed to be used for a few hours at a time at most I would say. I haven't worn them for more than 2 hours, and after that time period my ears still felt fine, but I bet they would hurt after just a little bit longer. They are perfect for workouts which is my only use for these.

Controls (summary): I love the controls. The number of buttons is reduced to only 4 and that helps keep the weight down. The only downside is to skip forward you have to press the play/pause button twice, which can be a little hard when doing hard cardio, but that is totally fine by me. It is only a minor inconvenience which I am more than happy to live with considering how bomb diggitty these headphones are overall.

    LEFT SIDE
    Play/pause: Tap play/pause button
Skip forward: Double tap play/pause button
    Skip backward: Hold play/pause button
    (+) volume: Tap volume button
    (-) volume: Hold volume button

    RIGHT SIDE
Answer/hang up call: Tap phone button
Activate voice control: Hold phone button for 3 seconds
    Power on: Hold power button
    Power off: Hold power button
Battery status: Tap power button while unit is on
Bluetooth pair: Hold power button for several seconds (I think it has to be off first, not sure)

    Summary:

If you're looking for an AWESOME set of headphones for working out, walking around, and commuting these things are perfect. They will let you hear your music while still being able to hear what's going on around you. You get great sound quality without having to deal with a bunch of wires to trip you up and make you look like a fool on the treadmill.

Don't get these if you need noise cancellation (passive or active), if you love in-ear headphones, and if you want to be taken by surprise as you walk/run down the sidewalk/street.
  • Reviewed in the United States on September 18, 2015
Awesome for running! I ordered these and a set of those $25 types you see hundreds of, which also get good reviews, although I don't think too many people are running with them. I took them both out of the packaging and started charging them while looking thru directions. They both charged in no time (must have come with a decent charge). I put the cheaper ones in my ears...the kind that have the looser cord attaching them together that everyone seems to get confused about how they go in your ear precisely. I may not have had them in perfectly, or the exact correct buds in them, but with a couple of combinations and just jumping around the kitchen for a few minutes I could tell these weren't going to work for running. Firstly the section of loose cord bounced and make a thumping noise in the buds, and secondly they had to be crammed so far into your ear that they feel they would have blocked too much ambient noise, and I like to hear and talk occasionally to people when I run. I put them down and then grabbed the plantronics. The ear "bud" design looks a lot like my corded Bose. I bent them over my ears and tried to get that same comfy feel my Bose gave me. It didn't quite feel the same and they weren't really getting INTO my ear like I thought they needed to be, and I was looking for extra ear adapters but found none, so I thought I wasn't going to be overly pleased. I did read the instructions and the ear buds rotate slightly and I played with that a bit, but they still didn't feel like my Bose (which shouldn't be an issue if you aren't comparing them to something else). So I powered them on, and a little voice came on and told me they were powered on and told me they were fully charged. That was so cool. I paired them with my iPhone - so easy, and a voice told me they were paired. I started a tune to see what they sounded like - sounded as good as my Bose. I jumped around the kitchen, they didn't go anywhere...I mean, you'd have to have your head cut off for them to drop off or even move. They fit nicely, but not uncomfortable, but I was still worried that I may not like the more "open" feel of them I was getting. So anyway I asked my daughter if she wanted to go for a run to try out my new headset (and the Flip Belt I also got at the same time - which is ALSO friggin awesome - just buy a size bigger than what you think you'd need - something I saw from many reviews and I correctly followed their advice). So, the volume (and volume buttons) was great. The more open feel I was getting was fine, and it actually seemed like I needed to turn the music down MORE than my Bose to hear other stuff and carry on a conversation. The sound was great, and they are so comfortable, it's like they're not there. The loop/wire might as well not be there. You can't feel it, there's no bouncing or anything. The unit feels well made and durable. I only went on a 6.2 mile run with them, and I'll be wearing them for the 1/2 marathon this weekend, but I believe I've finally perfected the "run with your iPhone" plan. These headphones (or at least ones with this general design) and a nice place to store your iPhone like this Flip Belt...which absolutely feels like it's not there and even with my iPhone 6 Plus in it, I can't feel it at all. So if you're thinking of getting this TYPE of headset, order a few different brands and then just return the ones you don't like, but I would definitely include this one in your trials. Price isn't too crazy, quality is nice. You also get a really cool case, which turns inside out into a nice arm band...if you like running with an arm band. I don't but I can store everything in the case...and the case is really high quality. Lastly, even the packaging is cool.

It does not have a voice cancellation but the volume is high enough to not to hear people around you. it is very comfortable to wear and it is sweat resistant. I don't know how it is going to last as I have been using it since couple of weeks now, but right now I"m happy with them.
