Apple quietly beefs up MacBook Pro line with faster CPUs, more

Been waiting for an update to the 13", 15", or 17" MacBook Pro? Apple has …

Apple's MacBook Pro line received a quiet update on Monday morning with bumped processor specs and more storage space. The speed and hard drive bumps vary by MacBook Pro size, and some models also received upgrades to their graphics offerings.

The 13" MacBook Pro saw its processors go to 2.4Ghz dual-core Intel Core i5s and 2.8GHz dual-core Intel Core i7s, up from 2.3GHz and 2.7GHz respectively. The machines also saw their drives bumped up to 500GB and 750GB. The 15" MacBook Pro, on the other hand, went up to 2.2GHz and 2.4GHz Core i7s, up from 2.0 and 2.2GHz, with an AMD Radeon HD 6750M in the lower-end machine and a 6770M on the higher end. (The build-to-order hard drive option for the 15" is now 750GB as well.)

And the Big Mama of the group, the 17" MacBook Pro, was bumped from a 2.2GHz Core i7 to a 2.4GHz version, with the option to go up to 2.5GHz. The 17" MacBook Pro also now has the Radeon HD 6770M, with the same build-to-order hard drive option as the 15" device.

The updates are relatively minor, but those who have been holding off on a MacBook Pro purchase aren't likely to complain about better specs. Prices remain the same as they were previously, with the low-end 13" MacBook Pro starting at $1,199 and going up to $2,499 for the 17" version. Apple snuck in these updates just before holiday shopping season, too—anyone hoping for a new MacBook Pro?
