We had a great time at the MySQL user conference (Percona Live) and now, in this post, we’d like to share the talk we gave about how to deliver ultra-fancy search with Sphinx.

This year’s talk was delivered by Vladimir Fedorkov (of Blackbird) and Andrew Aksyonoff (creator of Sphinx). If you missed Percona Live (or our talk), you can thank the Blackbird team for recording the audio. We don’t want you to feel left out, so we’ve laid the audio over the slides to create this presentation.

The beginning of the talk gives a general introduction to Sphinx and then Andrew jumps in to offer advice to those looking to take search to the next level. He talks about faceted search, auto-correction, searching with ranges (price, date, and so on), geo spatial search, non-fulltext search (filtering, grouping, sorting), and about some of Sphinx’s fulltext search operators (focusing on the field-limit operator and the quorum operator). So, if you want to learn a few things about search with Sphinx, grab some popcorn and watch this video.
