Driver Faces DWI Charge Following Crash in Central Greenwich

The arrest followed a car crash on Milbank Avenue in central Greenwich.

A driver, who Greenwich Police say was involved in a motor vehicle crash on Milbank Avenue, is facing a driving while intoxicated charge.

According to a police report, officers were called to the area of 100 Milbank Ave. about 2 a.m. Aug. 19 for a motor vehicle crash. They found the driver, identified as Bart Vanderhorst, 48, of Fort Lauderdale, FL, with an odor of alcohol on his “breath and person (with) glassy, red eyes and slurred speech,” according to the report. Vanderhorst was charged after he failed field sobriety tests, according to the report.

Vanderhorst also was charged with failure to drive in proper lane. The report didn’t indicate what he struck.

He was released after posting $250 bond and is scheduled to appear Sept. 2 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
