The (mostly American) public has really taken a liking to Kia’s boxy Soul, a crossover that manages to stand out in a ridiculously crowded sector it even shares with premium cars like the MINI Countryman.

Now, as is the case with all success stories in the industry, they are apparently looking to make derivatives of it to expand appeal, and the first they’re mulling is apparently a two-door version (technically a three-door, if you count the roof-hinged rear hatch).

US magazine Car&Driver says it has insider information that this is seriously being considered, and it goes on to speculate that it could be similar in look/philosophy to the Track’ster concept (pictured).

If it looks anything like the study, with the almost caricature-esque flared wheelarches, purposeful stance and lower roof, then they definitely could be on to something. Furthermore, the deal would be sweetened by the use of the same 250 hp engine that the concept came with.

Similar rumors have been floating around for the best part of two years, and there’s still no word on them getting official confirmation.
