When it comes to getting some extra life out of your device batteries, you can either keep a charger on you assuming that you have a place to plug in your device, keep a charged spare battery on hand to swap out if you have a removable battery, or you could look into grabbing a battery pack or power bank to take with you on the go, so you don’t have to worry about carrying a charger and finding an outlet or USB port since the power is all wrapped up into one little, portable device. Power banks are a great way to go because they can often be found with lots of high capacity options allowing you plenty of juice when you need it. With so many options out there though it can be hard to pin down which ones are the best and which ones aren’t worth your time. Lumsing was kind enough to send me this Lum-008-01 power bank with a 10,400 mAh capacity, pretty much setting me up for all my power related woes and giving me a way to get past them.
Right off the bat you can see that the Lum-008-01 power bank is stylish and sleek, and with 10,400 mAh of battery power you’d expect it to be kind of, well… hulking. It’s not though which plays really well into the stylish design. It’s easy enough to fit in a pocket or purse, or bag, so whether you’re storing it for later or keeping it on hand so you can use it as you walk(take note here Ingress players, this saved me on more than one occasion while I was out), the Lumsing 10,400 mAh power bank will be able to cover your needs. The design made it easy to hold in my hand which was nice. For extended use I found that I didn’t always want this thing in my pocket because it can feel a little weighted after a while, so carrying it was the next best thing. It’s curved on the back so it fits perfectly in your grip, and while it can feel a bit heavy after a while in your pocket, I found that it doesn’t feel the same when carrying it.
The power bank itself has two open USB ports on the front for charging your devices, and one micro USB port on the side for charging the power bank itself, and the power button sits next to the USB ports. It’s easy to use, and easy to tell how much juice is left in the power bank thanks to the LED indicators on the front next to the power button. The four LED’s tell you how much power is left and represent certain percentages of the power. A single flashing LED represents 10% power or less, one solid LED represents 10-25% power, two LED’s represent 25-50% power, three solid LED’s represent 50-75% power and four solid LED’s represent 75-100%  power. Having this to help me recognize how much power was left these past couple of weeks while using it was a huge plus. Turning it on is as easy as one click of the power button once you plug in your device, and there’s no need to turn off the power bank when your done using it. The power bank turns itself off about 5 seconds after no charge is being output so you can just leave it be, however you can press the power button if it makes you feel more secure that it’s actually off. With the power bank you get a USB cable for charging the power bank itself, and while the instructions recommend to use your own USB when charging your device so you charge it at a guaranteed compatible amperage, I have found that it has worked just fine for my Nexus 4. Results may be different for other users so it might be safer just to use your own USB cable. The power bank also comes with a nice little soft carrying pouch for travel so you can keep it in a safe place, and it has enough room for the power bank and any needed USB cables. You can keep things nice and secure thanks to the drawstring top that you can cinch closed when storing it.
With 10,400 mAh of battery power inside this power bank I have found that it is enough to charge my Nexus 4 fully at least four times, leaving the power bank with 2,000 mAh of juice left, which nearly charges my Nexus 4 to 100% a fifth time. For me personally since my device has a smaller battery I can get tons of use out of this one in particular. This power bank isn’t device specific, so you can use it to charge pretty much anything that will charge via USB so long as you have the correct cables needed. If your device charges with micro USB however the included cable worked just fine for me. Amazon is carrying them right now for $23.99 which is 53% off of the regular price of $49.99, which makes this a complete steal, and it comes in either black or white if you have a preference.
