How 'Rich Kids of Instagram' Inspired a Video Game Designer
The Instagrammers you love hate can now be found in a video game. Or at least, a version of them can.
Hitman GO is an iOS game (coming to Android soon), currently in the iTunes store for $4.99, and it is receiving rave reviews from industry professionals and gamers alike. In the game — based on the long running series of console games — the user plays Agent 47, and can "strategically navigate fixed spaces on a grid to avoid enemies and take out your target or infiltrate well-guarded locations.
You really have to think about each move and all the Hitman tools of the trade you would expect are included; disguises, distractions, sniper rifles and even 47’s iconic Silverballers."
The designers behind the game attempted to incorporate the best of both board games and video games. The graphics in the game are sleek, centered around a series of boards the character jumps between.
The boards themselves are inspired by the "Rich Kids of Instagram," or their lavish lifestyles, anyway. Game designer Dan Lutz told Gamasutra, “It’s kids with a lot of money taking pictures of their everyday lives, and there you see these hugely spaced-out mansions and giant yachts and there’s just kind of a lot of empty space. Hitman GO is kind of modeled after that.” The decadent emptiness Lutz refers to is covered endlessly by the #richkids, and apparently makes an excellent playground for cloned assassins to eliminate their targets with stealth and horrific violence.

Hopefully, the Kids can take a break from swimming in their parents' money to download the game they inspired. At $4.99, they can probably afford it.
