// Unique features

- Zoom & rotate & pan (Chromecast & other Google Cast devices)
- NAS: SMB access
- Subtitles: Opensubtitle.org integration
Subtitles only work with Chromecast and Apple TV 4

// Videos

Be aware that the Chromecast only supports a couple of format/codecs.
It can read containers like mp4, mkv, 3gp and m4v, but all these containers can use different codecs.

// Pictures

On a Chromecast:
Rotate, zoom and pan pictures easily from the "Now playing" screen, touch the
button with the four arrows.

// Subtitles

Subtitles work with Chromecast and Apple TV 4:
- Use the Opensubtitles.org integration
- Touch a subtitle file after you started a video
Subtitles in the same folder are added automatically.
You can set a subtitle folder which will be searched.
Subtitle timing, font, background and color can be changed.
Subtitle encoding in the settings: e.g. for arabic subtitles choose UTF-8
Some DLNA servers add information about subtitles, some don't.

// Wireless headphones (beta)

Touch the headphone symbol on the "Now playing" screen, to stream the sound to your phone.
It's impossible to sync this automatically and network delays make it hard.
This feature is in beta: it might work most of the time.

Hit or miss, unfortunately. Many times, the file doesn't cast correctly. Occasionally, only the video plays without sound. Other times, an error is displayed that a file isn't supported. H265 audio? Forget it. 1080DPI? Good luck trying. It's even more frustrating when you pay for the app and it just doesn't get any better.

I always considered Localcast the most polished app for casting, especially if you have a home DLNA server and want to play and control it's media on your smart TVs.. and also since it supports rotating images. But what undermines it... is HUGE battery drain. I have to force stop the app after I use it. And then also enable background usage, otherwise it loses the current play time. Those two things though are at odds... I can't be the only one reporting this, yet it's years old..

When I 1st started using this app in the summer of 2019 it was awesome, I haven't used it in several months. The app is now garbage it won't play maybe a 10th of what it use to I been using it for Kodi and I know it use to play anything that was 1080p or 720p as long as it didn't have blue ray or AC3 in the stream everything pops up does not support the video or stream.
