Alberta Ferretti Gets Inspired by Arboriculture for a Romantic Fall 2014 Collection (Runway Review)

The Inspiration: Arboriculture.

The Look: Fall 2014 was one of Alberta Ferretti’s richest collections to date, in terms of texture and color. The nature-inspired lineup felt costumey, in the best possible way — think a romantic updated Shakespeare look — with its feathers, rose necklines, fur lining, bark-like texture, abundance of felt and tweed and rusty autumnal palette. Intricately detailed, a series of green looks appeared mossy in texture. Romantic fairytale-inspired pieces can easily seem dowdy, but in Ferretti’s hands they were modern, while befitting of a relatively wide age demographic. Also worth singling out were the beautiful gowns that closed the show — two lightly pleated lace dresses and two covered with metallic olive green mossy detailing.

The Accessories: Sandles covered in feathers or strappy heels worn with socks.

The Beauty: Hair was center parted and casually pulled back into a low ponytail, lips were muted to keep the focus on the eyes which were brushed with a brown shadow.

The Takeaway: A romantic woodsy inspiration and couture-like details made for one of Ferretti’s most beautiful collection to date.
