King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard on the Moon

These self proclaimed "completely fried theremin wielding psychopaths" from down under are my discovery of the year so far. Since 2011 they have released 4 albums plus an 8 track ep but they were only recently brought to my attention by the ever brilliant God Is In The TV blog as they picked up on the 12" release of the epic Head on/Pill for Record Store Day. This track is on their marvellous 8 track LP from last year called Float Along, Fill Your Lungs and since then they have released a new shorter 12 track LP called Oddments that actually would have been better being a 6 track EP. So below is a Spotify playlist with 7 songs from Float Along, Fill Your Lungs and 5 songs from Oddments along with a very "funkay" instrumental and two short oddments.

If it were an LP it would definitely be a candidate for album of the year. Head on/Pill might well be the best 16 minute track ever recorded and very much reminds me of the two opening tracks from the recent Wreaths LP in its sheer brilliance though, it is more 1967 than 1993. It is  a hard act to follow but what does follow is number of great 3 minute songs that are reminiscent of Ty Segall or the Fat White Family at their most melodically brilliant. You can also listen and download all their releases via Bandcamp.
