The internet as you know it might seem infinite, but according to ICANN, it's still not quite infinite enough. Soon, a whole new world of internet real estate is coming your way in the form of 122 brand new domain names. That's right, you can finally make YourNameHere.SEXY all your very own.
Starting tomorrow soon, the mad rush for the first crop of brand new generic top-level domain names (gTLDs) will officially begin. We've known this day was coming for a while, but of the thousands of domain applications ICANN received, only a little over a hundred have made it into official play. Of course, that's still a hell of a lot more than the meager 22 we've been living on—and sucking dry—up until now. Don't expect standard prices, though; .LUXURY alone will cost you about $800. But on the other hand—luxurious!
So while many more stand to be approved in the weeks and months to come, which of tomorrow's the eventual crop should you jump on? These are the best (read: weirdest) domains soon to be ripe for the taking. And if you have your eye on something special, best be quick—we're guessing gems like www.s.expert won't last too long.
Update 5:13 pm EST: There seems to be some confusion as to which domains are actually available starting tomorrow. We're in the process of updating with the correct list.
Update 5:23 pm EST: We spoke to Nick Nelson of Rightside, the parent company of Name.com, who's helped us straighten the problem out. According to Nelson:
The domain coming available on wednesday are .CAMERA, .EQUIPMENT, .ESTATE, .GALLERY, .GRAPHICS, .LIGHTING and .PHOTOGRAPHY. Now there's a lot of domain names available to pre-register, but this basically means you are standing in line outside of Apple waiting for the new iPhone. In this case, even worse, as the domains might not be coming out for a few months.
So while not all of the below domains are available to the public yet, they will be eventually—just not tomorrow.
