Forsyth, wanted for other offences across the country, forced other cars off the road as he tried to escape justice.

He even switched off his lights and continued to drive at 100mph in a 40mph area after police used a stinger to flatten his tyres.

His BMW was eventually stopped when cops rammed it from behind.

Prosecutor Claire Larton said Forsyth tried to wriggle out of the passenger side before being tasered twice by cops in a violent struggle.

Miss Larton told Carlisle Crown Court: "For a further two-and-a-half hours, in hospital receiving treatment, he continued to be abusive to officers.

"He was ranting for a long time about Raoul Moat, and about how he had the right idea of shooting police officers in the face.

"He appeared, in their opinion, to be fascinated with Mr Moat in particular."

Forsyth, of Carlisle, admitted dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, no insurance and possession of a bladed article.

The court heard he had three previous dangerous driving crimes on his rap sheet.

Paul Tweddle, mitigating, said Forsyth had "behaved extremely foolishly" during the chase in Carlisle on January 19.

Forsyth was jailed for 30 months, having also been convicted in his absence of crimes in Cambridgeshire which were committed in 2016.

Judge James Adkin banned him from driving for two years. He said it was "frankly just about as serious as police chases get".

His hero Raoul Moat, 37, executed a love rival and then blinded Pc David Rathband, 44, after shooting him in the face with a shotgun in 2010.

Moat had rung 999 minutes earlier waging war on cops and told an operator he was "hunting for officers".

Cop-hater Moat went on the run and later killed himself after an armed stand-off.
