Diesel models are only starting to pop up on buyers’ radars in North America, but in Europe, and especially for certain types of vehicles like SUVs, it’s the de-facto engine choice, so it’s only fitting that the press over there is placing a lot of focus on the new Porsche Macan S Diesel.

The new Macan, in general, has proven to be a blockbuster hit for Porsche, as according to Autocar’s Steve Suttclife, the first year’s production run of more than 50,000 units has already been spoken for, leading to a yearlong waiting list, though, company CEO Matthias Mueller has said that the automaker will adjust production according to demand.

One of the more direct rivals for the Macan is the Range Rover Evoque, which has been one of the magazine’s favorites in this segment.

You can see how this comparison played out in the following video, but before you do, let us mention that the £43,300 Macan S Diesel has a 255hp 3.0-liter V6 that allows for a 0-60mph (96km/h) in 6.3 sec and returns 46.3mpg UK combined (38.5mpg US or 6.1l/100km), while the £40,005 Evoque sports a 188hp 2.2-liter inline-four giving a 0-60mph time of 8.5 sec and a fuel economy of 47.1mpg UK (39.2mpg US or 6.0l/100km).
