Day 121: A Date With Myself

One of my favorite things to do now and then is take myself on a date— whether it be having a nice lunch alone or going to the movies by myself, it’s nice to not have compromises and only worry about pleasing Grace

I usually like to treat myself to Western food on the weekends, especially if I’m in Bangkok. I had read about a restaurant called Firehouse that specializes in gourmet burgers and is supposed to be one of the top restaurants serving “American” cuisine. A cheeseburger and wedge fries sounded like something my life needed.

I’ve recently noticed that my diet does not include very much meat here. Or dairy. Not that it’s vital— I love my daily Thai food menu of spices and noodles— but it’s nice to eat some comfort food on the weekends, like pasta, pizza, Mexican food, a cheeseburger.

Firehouse is off the Nana BTS exit, just a short walk down Sukhumvit, Soi 11. With a bit of direction from the locals I eventually found this hidden little pub and restaurant.

The place is small and cozy, with red-brick walls, wood furniture, dim lighting, black & white photos of firemen, fire trucks, fire stations… and a collection of vintage fireman hats.

The red brick interior design makes it feel like you really are in a firehouse. Not to mention the sexy waitresses dressed in heels or combat boots wearing tiny fireman costumes and hats. They were all very sweet and spoke excellent English— I assume they must get a lot of Western/English-speaking customers. Oddly enough, though, there were only 4 other people in the restaurant while I was there, and they were all speaking Spanish.

As for the menu, they specialize in gourmet burgers. I ordered a “mini” burger with wedge fries and a Coca-Cola for 300B ($10). It was delicious, but I unfortunately couldn’t finish all of it (I can’t imagine how much bigger a regular burger must be). I like the little water bucket container in which my fries were served in— this little place definitely lives up to its theme.

I really like this place. If you’re in town and need a cheeseburger fix, head to Firehouse.
