''Don't diss the poor.''
Miike is the single coolest filmmaker to have ever lived.
This film is two hours of guys being dudes and hanging out, guys and dudes having masculine sentimental moments with one another, and guys punching dudes to the sound of delirious rock and roll tunes.
The cluttered chaotic aesthetic, the costume design—especially the hair—and the spectacular fight sequences...
Crows Zero is just pure, distilled, unrestrained cool.

"Kurôzu zero" aka "Crows Zero" was a good but slightly underwhelming action movie, IMO.
The plot and background are interesting and promissing but, oddly, the movie is somewhat lacking in its main stuff... action. Too many characters, too much style but quite a lot less actual (great) "stuff". Some guys barely even fight (or actually show any technique for it) lol
Shooting, editing and setting looked great, to be fair.
I found the most interesting character was Ken (who actually gave the movie a side story on his own), the most intriguing Riuda (the sole one who didn't fail to meet expectations, barely) and the best fighter…
Tapi, sekarang terasa biasa-biasa aja.
Takiya, a newcomer to Suzuran High School, where very violent gangs clash daily, wants to try to take control of it. To do this, he is trained by Katagiri, a former Yakuza, and must fight against his rival Serizawa.
Very faithful to the ultra-violent atmosphere of the manga from which he is inspired, Takashi Miike signs one of his many nervous films focusing about gangs of teenagers who are at war.
He goes all the way in his desire to transform a teen-movie into an explosive mix of martial arts and gangster films, with well-choreographed fight scenes and an allegory between yakuza and youth gangs rocked to rock music. 'n roll.
A simply excellent film which perfectly transcribes the violence of manga fights in the style of "Tokyo revengers". An astonishing action film faithful to the shonen style: friendship, courage and self-transcendence.
Director: Takashi Miike (Fourth Film)
A wonderfully absurd fighting fiesta of an action film that involves high-school factions pitting their fighting skills against each other in a bid to obtain control of the entire place. There are basically no teachers who actually teach in this place and the only learning involved is the learning that comes from the fists.
It's a ridiculous idea anchored by Takashi Miike with bizarre but endearing humour that is sort of hit and miss; often it's hilarious and other times it's grating but ultimately I enjoyed it all despite its entire appeal being for the youthful, vigorous and hot-blooded boys (rather than men) and the music being something that won't really appeal to…
You would think a movie like this one would be far too busy making it's characters look cool, doing ellaborated fight sequences and then call it a day. But the story wants to let us know the characters, and Miike loves to have fun throwing some visual gags here and there. Is not a modern The Warriors, but it's certainly above the usual teen-oriented high school film.
My high school days were somewhat different. 😄
That human bowling scene tho!!!
Damnnnn, all dem pretty boys being tough and getting bloody…yes, this is my shit 😂 As someone who embraced High & Low, I of course loved this 😂 but it’s cooler than H&L, more yakuza and there is about a hundred less names and gangs to remember, and no J-pop 🙏😂 The fights aren’t as good - that’s where H&L excels for me, and why action fans should get over the cheese and themselves and give them a chance.
But YES! Loved this, and will hit the rest of the series with guarded anticipation…

What a great way to start this week of insanity.
This is coolness turned to the max.
If Bully (the game) and the Ryu Ga Gotoku series had a kid, this would be it. You have this high school setting with those different groups and a story of becoming the king among those groups, just like in Bully. But there are also the totally over-the-top fist fights that solve every problem and scenes that you could compare to the absurd and funny substories that are a staple in the Yakuza-franchise. It‘s just all over the place, but in turn very entertaining.
Sadly, Crows Zero somewhat drags around the 70 minute mark. The movie suddenly decides to drop…
The son of a Yakuza boss (Shun Oguri) aims at taking over Suzuran High, a school ruled by a powerful gang led by the mighty Serizawa (Takayuki Yamada). Lots of badassery and brawls ensue...
Takashi Miike's very own REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE. He joyfully mocks and praises the cad culture at the same time here, in full-on Rock N' Roll style. So we get tons of funny hairdos, shouting, blood, sweat and... tears..., well a few at least. This could also be described as a high school Yakuza spectacle. Boys will be boys here and who needs brains when you've got guts and honor.
Even as a completely over-the-top cartoon, CROWS ZERO actually manages to maintain some empathy for its…
