U.S. JOURNAL: WENDOVER, UTAH about Wendover, a speck of a place separated by a hundred miles of desert from anyplace else. A problem in Wendover, which has become a popular gambling site, is that the town would like to control all of the abandoned Air Force Hangars, and the largest one is occupied by a self-taught scientist named Robert Golka, who only pays one dollar a year in rent, per an agreement with the Air Force. Golka uses the hangar for his Project Tesla, a somewhat dubious answer to the energy crisis. Known as the Wizard of Wendover, Golka is thought of by most of the townspeople as a freeloader, and he chooses to blame the main casino in town, the State Line, for trying to oust him.
