A day long awaited by the enormous latent audience for RPG gaming/hip hop crossovers has finally arrived: Ice-T has recorded a D&D audiobook.

Ice-T talks about the experience on his podcast, Final Level. Apparently it wasn't an entire novel, just a short story 40 pages long. Good thing, as the process was taxing for the rap legend.

"This shit is impossible to read. When you read these books, you don't have to speak the words, so you make up the pronunciation in your head. But to actually verbally say these words...son, it took me 3 1/2 hours to read 25 pages. I needed breaks. I needed water."

I'm trying to track down which story Ice-T read for — I'll update this article as soon as I find out. In the meantime we can all await a new version of "Paladin Killer," or maybe a cover of "Don't Call Me Hobbit, Elfy." Here's Ice-T's parting wisdom on D&D:

"Dungeons & Dragons is some of the most crazy, deep, deep, deep nerd shit ever invented. Every word you're saying is made up. Motherfuckers talk like Yoda."
