COLBERT COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – Yesterday, during standard election monitoring, it was discovered that poll workers distributed incorrect ballot styles in the Colbert County Board of Education District 5 Democratic Primary, according to Colbert County Probate Judge Daniel Rosser.

Rosser said steps were immediately taken to correct the mistake.

“At this time, we know that at least 23 people voted in the District 5 School Board Democrat Primary that were not entitled to do so. Why did this happen? Because of honest mistakes made by poll workers. Should this be acceptable to the citizens of Colbert County? Absolutely not,” Rosser said.

Only the outcome of the District 5 School Board Democratic primary was affected, according to Rosser. In a rare tie, both Ricky G. Saint and Brad Counce received 432 votes in the primary election.

“The lesson this office has learned from this matter is to redouble our efforts to adequately train our poll workers, while continuing to honor their service to the community,” Rosser said.

The two candidates in the 5th District School Board Democratic primary have been informed of this mistake and are exploring their options along with the chairman of the Colbert County Democratic Party, according to Rosser.
