J.J. Abrams is working on a new video game project: Spyjinx. A collaboration between the Star Wars: The Force Awakens director and Epic Games' subsidiary Chair Entertainment (Infinity Blade, Shadow Complex), the game will launch in 2016 on Windows PC and mobile devices.
In February 2013, Abrams said he was working with Valve on a game project. Neither party has said anything about that game since, making Spyjinx his first to be officially announced.
Abrams' production company Bad Robot will work with the studio to develop the game. In the video above, Geoff Keighley talked to Abrams and Chair co-founder Donald Mustard about their partnership.
"I'm such a fan of what Chair has made and allowed me and my kids to play," Abrams said regarding his desire to work with the studio on his first game. He goes on to say that Bad Robot has been looking to expand into the gaming industry, and the studios' mutual appreciation for each other made them a good fit for a collaboration.
According to its website, Spyjinx will be powered by Unreal Engine 4 and offer "a unique mix of action strategy gameplay, dynamic world building and RPG character development."
"The early discussions of this [game] were very ambitious," Abrams says, before promising to share more details about the nature of the title closer to release.
A press release states that a closed beta will be available in 2016. Registration is available now at the Spyjinx website.
