It’s time for West African businesswomen to shine

West African female tech entrepreneurs are getting a chance to grow their small businesses, thanks to She Leads Africa’s pitch competition.

She Leads Africa (a global group of young professionals who want to unlock the potential of businesswomen in Africa) is giving female entrants the opportunity to pitch to a panel of experienced entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and financiers looking to invest in African upcoming startups.

The ten finalists chosen will be mentored by professionals that will help to refine their business plans, and develop pitch decks in time for the 27th September deadline.

The winners of She Leads Africa will walk away with $10 000 (around R100 000) for first place, $5 000 (around R50 000) for second place, consultation on brand development with the Etisalat in-house marketing team, a free business ADSL line for one year (including voice and data), SME accounting software from SmartStart Ghana, two meetings with legal advisors from a top law firm to discuss incorporation, corporate structures and copyright, meetings with two executive directors of a leading merchant bank to discuss business plans and fund raising.

“The continent will not be able to reach its full potential without the full economic participation of women,” said She Leads Africa organiser Afua Osei.

The competition is open to:

  • West African women entrepreneurs between the ages of 18-35 years old whose businesses are focused on the African market
  • Companies that have received less than $50 000 (around R500 000) in funding, have been in operation for less than three years and have a live product in the market

Entries can submitted on the She Leads Africa website.
