Another US Trailer for Shark Attack Movie 'Something in the Water'
"Hungry, are you?" 🦈 Samuel Goldwyn Films has unveiled their own new US trailer for the shark horror movie Something in the Water, made by a VFX artist turned filmmaker named Hayley Easton Street. Ready to dive in? "This summer, fear will find new depths." Now set to open in select US theaters at the beginning of May to kick off the summer movie season. This all-female production is written by, directed by, produced by, and stars nothing but women. The survival thriller follows a group of five girlfriends who must fight for their lives in open water after a dream wedding transformed into a nightmare. Starring Hiftu Quasem, Lauren Lyle, Natalie Mitson, Nicole Rieko Setsuko, and Ellouise Shakespeare-Hart, as a group of friends on a holiday gone very wrong. It's always the same story in these shark movies, something goes wrong out on the water, blood attracts the shark, and so on. This trailer isn't as good as the other one.
Ridley Scott's Original 'Alien' (1979) Returns to Theaters Next Week
"In space no one can hear you scream." Don't miss this. 20th Century Studios has confirmed a re-release of the classic original Alien movie in theaters next week. Ridley Scott's Alien from 1979 will be playing again on the big screen starting April 26th - which is 4/26, also known as "Alien Day" because the planet from this original movie (and the Aliens sequel) is known as "LV-426". This sci-fi all-timer has been showing in theaters multiple times since it first opened some 45 years ago, and still holds up. The theatrical experience watching this is still as exhilarating as ever! Take your friends and go enjoy this classic! Alien stars Tom Skerritt, Sigourney Weaver, Veronica Cartwright, Harry Dean Stanton, John Hurt, Ian Holm, and Yaphet Kotto. This is a re-release from 20th/Disney but it's also a bit of a promotion to get people excited about the upcoming Alien: Romulus standalone movie from Fede Alvarez. Official Trailer for 'A Man in Full' Series with Jeff Daniels & Diane Lane
"I don't just want to take down your ex-husband, I want to devour him." Oh damn! It seems the battle has begun. Netflix has debuted the full official trailer for the series A Man in Full, arriving for streaming early May in a few weeks (first teaser here). It's adapted from the novel "A Man in Full" written by the late Tom Wolfe, a book many are familiar with already. The main character is Charles Croker, once a college football star, now a late-middle-aged Atlanta conglomerate king whose outsize ego has at last hit up against reality. When Atlanta real estate mogul Charlie Croker faces sudden bankruptcy, political and business interests collide as Charlie defends his empire from those attempting to capitalize on his fall from grace. Starring Jeff Daniels as Croker, with Tom Pelphrey, Diane Lane, Lucy Liu, William Jackson Harper, Aml Ameen, Sarah Jones, Jon Michael Hill, and Chanté Adams. This looks wicked and amusing and, you know, from this trailer I'm kinda on the side of everyone trying to take him down. Will they be successful…?
Dakota Johnson & Sean Penn in a NYC Taxi in 'Daddio' Full Trailer
"I just gotta tell ya… you're better off walking away." Sony Pictures Classics has revealed the main official trailer for the indie film titled Daddio, marking the feature debut of the newcomer filmmaker Christy Hall. This initially premiered at both the 2023 Telluride & Toronto Film Festivals last fall. It's currently set for a release in select theaters starting in late June this summer. The New York City drama is set entirely in a taxi cab departing from JFK airport. A young woman jumps into the backseat of a yellow taxi, the cabbie throws the vehicle into drive as the two head out into the night toward Manhattan, striking up the most unexpected conversation resulting in a single, epic, remarkable journey. Dakota Johnson stars as Girlie, and Sean Penn co-stars as the driver Clark, described as a "curbside philosopher." I'm actually very curious to watch this, to see where their conversation goes and what gets revealed between the two of them. It's worth a look.
First Teaser for 'Mothership' - Nathan Love's New Animation Creation
Whoa! Now what do we have here? A giant celestial being? Animation fans need to keep an eye out for this online series called Mothership, the latest creation from the animation studio known as Nathan Love. There are now two teaser trailers online, following premieres at film festivals back in 2023. It's mysteriously described as "a ridiculous space odyssey starting at the beginning of time itself (the Big Bang)." The story follows a creature known as the Starman. He is exiled to a planet where he accidentally creates life. "The Starman shapes and teaches these creatures, evolving them into human-esque forms. They worship him, he instructs them in the building of monuments and a civilization grows. With their help, the Starman is able to travel back to his galactic home. But was the creation he left behind a mistake?" These teasers reveal the humongous Starman creature in all of its glory and splendor, showing just how detailed every aspect of this animation looks. Even with only a tiny bit of footage, I'm hooked. I'll be waiting to watch when it launches.
Official Trailer for 'Hip-Hop and the White House' Music History Doc
"You don't have to be a political hip hop artist to make a political statement." Hulu has revealed the official trailer for a new documentary film titled Hip-Hop and the White House, made by writer / filmmaker Jesse Washington (from Andscape) as his feature directorial debut. This is set for streaming next week on Hulu. Hip-hop's rise from marginalized urban culture to powerful mainstream force is explored alongside its intersections with presidential politics and policies from the 1970s to present day. "We feel this is the perfect time to discuss how hip-hop has influenced presidential politics, and to ask what we can expect from the culture in this upcoming election season," Washington states. Based on material generated & reported by Andscape's team of award-winning journalists, this doc will be the first in a series produced by this team. It's narrated by Atlanta's Jeezy and includes interviews with Common, YG, U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, KRS-One, Roxanne Shante, Bun B, Bakari Kitwana, Farai Chideya, Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka, Curren$y, Dave "Davey D" Cook, Grandmaster Caz, Waka Flocka Flame, and Chika, among many others. Check it out below.

A Soldier Returns with a Demon in Supernatural Horror 'Refuge' Trailer
"I know you think you found something out there. Or something found him…" Vertical has revealed a full official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled Refuge, made by the acclaimed Finnish action filmmaker Renny Harlin - also of The Strangers; Chapter 1. Apparently he was already in Bulgaria shooting Ninja Fury when local producers contacted him about making Refuge next. After a mysterious attack from a malevolent demon during his tour of duty in Afghanistan, Sergeant Rick Pedroni returns home a changed man, and more dangerous than ever. This is similar to many other solider-returns-home-damaged films but with a supernatural PTSD twist. The film stars Aston McAuley as Rick, Sophie Simnet as his wife Kate, Raza Jaffrey, Johanna Harlin, Shervin Alenabi, Atanas Srebrev, Max Kraus, and Jason Flemyng. This mostly looks like generic horror mashed up with a soldier story, though it does have some scary scenes in it.
Official Trailer for Captivating Sci-Fi Series 'Outer Range' - Season 2
"There's this theory that the fabric of time and space is fluid… That's why I believe is flowing beneath the land…" Prime Video has unveiled the official trailer for the next season of mysterious sci-fi series Outer Range, starring Josh Brolin as a rancher in Wyoming. This series initially launched back in 2022, and we featured the original trailer back then. Now Season 2 of Outer Range is ready to launch streaming on Prime Video in May 2024, featuring one episode directed by Brolin himself. It's about what happens with this rancher discovers a mysterious black void on his land, digging up old secrets and plenty more. "A thrilling fable with hints of wry humor & supernatural mystery, Outer Range examines how we grapple with the unknown." This second season propels its characters deeper into the void with profound and unforeseen circumstances that could shake the very foundations of time itself. Brolin stars with an ensemble including Imogen Poots, Lili Taylor, Tamara Podemski, Lewis Pullman, Tom Pelphrey, Noah Reid, Olive Abercrombie, Isabel Arraiza, Shaun Sipos, & Will Patton. Whoa - this an an excellent trailer, got my attention again. There's a whole lot of crazy things going on in here - this might be worth catching up with.
J.K. Simmons on the Prowl in Thriller 'You Can't Run Forever' Trailer
"I don't have to run faster than the man-eating tiger, I just have to run faster than you." Survival of the fastest!! Lionsgate has revealed an official trailer for You Can't Run Forever, an intense survival thriller set in the woods. It's directed by a filmmaker named Michelle Schumacher, who just so happens to be J.K. Simmons' wife, and he also stars in it as well. It's a family affair! This spine-tingling thriller will be released on VOD and in theaters this May if anyone wants to catch it. A teenage girl suffering from anxiety due to a tragic event from her past finds herself hunted through the woods by a sociopath on a murderous rampage. In a harrowing hunt through the woods, Miranda finds strength she never knew she had as she tries to elude her serial killer follower. Starring J.K. Simmons and Fernanda Urrejola, with Allen Leech, Isabelle Anaya, Graham Patrick Martin, and Olivia Simmons (their daughter). Uhhh this looks bonkers!! J.K. Simmons as a mad serial killer who will slay anyone in his path?! Where the hell did this film come from??
First Trailer for MTL Drag Scene Film 'Solo' Starring Théodore Pellerin
"You should come to my show." Music Box Films has unveiled the official trailer for a Canadian indie drama titled Solo, the latest creation from Quebecois filmmaker Sophie Dupuis. This is currently set to open in US theaters starting this May, after originally premiering at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival. It also showed at the Oslo/Fusion International Film Festival last fall and a few other fests. An electrifying love story quickly develops when a rising star in the Montreal drag queen scene meets his club's newest performer, but how long can the couple sustain an artistic double act when the solo spotlight beckons? Featuring a star-making performance by Théodore Pellerin along with Félix Maritaud. "Beautifully charting the highs and lows of falling in love and finding oneself in one's art, writer and director Sophie Dupuis' Solo is a passionate feat of character-driven storytelling and visual extravagance, celebrating the drag world in all its splendor and heartache." Animated Musical 'Thelma the Unicorn' Trailer feat. Brittany Howard
"You're like a fluffy piece of cotton candy with legs!" Netflix has revealed an official trailer for Thelma the Unicorn, an animated musical comedy from filmmakers Jared Hess (of Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre, Gentlemen Broncos) & Lynn Wang. Made by Mikros Animation and Netflix Animation, along with Buzzfeed Studios, Matchbox Hero, Scholastic Entertainment. Thelma is a small-time pony who dreams of becoming a glamorous music star. In a moment of fate, Thelma is transformed into a unicorn and she instantly rises to global stardom, but this new life of fame comes at a cost. This animated comedy stars singer / songwriter Brittany Howard as the voice of Thelma, along with Will Forte, Jemaine Clement, Edi Patterson, Maliaka Mitchell, Ally Dixon, Fred Armisen, Zach Galifianakis, and Jon Heder. This looks way, way too similar to the Sing series of movies, with singing animals competing in competitions. Though I do like the plot in this being inspired by being fake (on social media) and how she must learn to be her real self.
US Trailer for 'Dancing Village: The Curse Begins' Indonesian Horror
"Don't stop dancing." Lionsgate has revealed an official US trailer for horror thriller from Indonesia titled Dancing Village: The Curse Begins, from filmmaker Kimo Stamboel, one half of The Mo Brothers. It's set for release later in April after first opening last week in Indonesia and other South East Asia countries. This village still holds many mysteries… Piece by piece the mystery is revealed, including the terror of the most feared entity, namely, Badarawuhi. A group of students want to do KKN and meet elders. After living in the village for days, one by one the students experience unexpected events. It turns out Mila was chosen by the snake demon to be a dancer in his world. Mila's spirit is trapped in another world, while her body is helpless. Will she become the new "Dawuh", a cursed soul forced to dance for the rest of her life? Starring Aulia Sarah, Maudy Effrosina, Jourdy Pranata, M. Iqbal Sulaiman, Ardit Erwandha, Claresta Taufan, Diding Boneng, & Aming Sugandhi. This has some creepy images in a horror tale about dance.
