About Colossal
Colossal is an online art magazine that celebrates contemporary art and visual culture across a wide range of creative disciplines. Based in Chicago, we have an international focus on both emerging and established artists. Each day, we publish several artist profiles, coverage of current exhibitions, in-depth conversations with outspoken artists, and a healthy dose of the unexpected, all with an ongoing commitment to make art accessible to everyone.
Colossal curates and produces several exhibitions annually, hosts artist workshops online and off, facilitates talks, and publishes opportunities for artists every month. We also run a fun online design shop.
In a world brimming with information overload, an epidemic of loneliness, climate catastrophe, capitalism run amok, and social inequity, we curate Colossal to focus on the most positive, diverse, and impactful stories that bring about change and meaningful connection. We intend to amplify the voices of artists working toward more equitable and sustainable futures through innovation, unexpected materials, humor, spectacle, and vast reserves of skill and hope. We are supported largely by our extraordinarily generous members.
Colossal was founded in 2010 by writer and curator Christopher Jobson. Over the last decade, we have been honored with accolades by The National Endowment for the Arts, TED, and PBS Art21. Colossal won the UTNE Media Award for Arts Coverage and has been nominated for a Webby.
