I agree .

I prefer a cool Hero character over making my own character
because of :

1- The hero can be on next titles with some improves and changes .

2- voice acting.

3- having a better dramatic moments.

for instance every body knows john marston though he was in one game only .

Most games that allow you to make your own character have of all of these attributes...

Somebody3679d ago

Geralt is unique because he is the established main character in his own story. Whatever dramatic moments we encounter in TW happen only to Geralt. In contrast the same dramatic moments in other RPGs that allow you to custom build your own character happen to a multitude of varying characters.

We all recognize and remember to this day classic games through their main characters like Mario, Link, Snake, Dante and more. RPGs with customizable characters though are only remembered for their titles and gameplay. Not many of them have any single character for us to remember them by except for the one we made and played with.

Does John Marston conflict with your first point?

I agree for MOST games I like having a molded character for me to play as because it creates a strong experience.

But Fallout/Elder Scrolls would've been lame games if you were a pre determined character for each race.

BloodyElle3679d ago

I think you never played Mass Effect. At least to me, customization is key when I play an RPG.

linkenski3679d ago

It's certainly nice to have, but I would hate it if Geralt was a custom-made character by the players' liking.

Shepard is also not much to brag about. In Mass Effect 3 he's borderline Mary-sue ish.

Anthotis3679d ago

Good point, even though i like making my own character.

Blackleg-sanji3679d ago

have we seen any gameplay at all of this?

elninels3679d ago

I have, as have others. You apparently have not.

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave25d ago (Edited 25d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
