10 Years Later: World of Warcraft

Pixel Critique's month-long look back at the 30 games that defined 2004, goes on a bit of an MMO run, and finds it difficult to come up with anything new to say about World of Warcraft.

TL;DR: I wish the game was harder again like Vanilla/BC.

I remember when I first joined WoW. It was only a couple of months before the Burning Crusade expansion came out. Meaning I was only around 12 years old at the time. I showed my brother the game and he decided he would pay for an account for both of us to use.

Little did we realize the problems we would have as we both tried to play at the same time and kicked each other out.

At that time I never wanted to quest so instead I would literally sit at a dungeon entrance and spam LFG until we had all the members. Back in this time, for those that don't know, there was no simple method of finding a group. No system to do it for you, only macros. So I literally spent around half of the burning crusade grinding dungeons UNTIL I found out this thing called Quest Helper. Which made questing SO much easier. Yet at this time it still felt like it took ages to level up.

And now when I think of it... I wish I could go back to when the game wasn't too easy...

Yea but there is still no MMO that people can say "its better then WoW". Which i find true because there is no MMO that has better raids,Pvp and Dungeons. If anyone says other wise then you havent truly played the end game of WoW.

I take my hat off to blizzard for making a game that has lasted so long and they have continued to give content to.

The only problem i have with the game now is the instant lvl 90 buy in (I can agree on a lvl 60 or 70 buy in kinda) and the fact that they needed to keep with some of the cool things that BC and Vanilla had in terms of Raids and they way you would make friends on your server.

Everyone that i have talked to about WoW always talks about the good old days and has a funny story to tell i say give it ago again when the new expansion comes out at least it wont be as bad as MoP.

True. And I have yet to find another MMO that can take me away from WoW. I may not be subscribed to it currently, but I have tried to play others and it just can't compare to WoW for me. The only MMO I played before WoW was Ultima Online. And these two MMOs will forever be stuck with me until I die.

wrath of the lich king made it easier to access dungeons but we still had to grind and be good with our classes to get into the top tier dungeons/raids.

I got into wow in early 2006 and i played on an off until around mid point of wrath of the lich king.

i never did miss standing around trying to find groups or doing quest chains to get into dungeons.

that is what i love about mmorpg we all have our different experiences even though we are in the same game.

I did enjoy that it got easier to do dungeons. But when I started to look at everything I miss when I just grind the dungeons it's a real killjoy. I understand those (including myself) that don't want to level alts anymore can just grind the dungeons for gear and fast leveling now, but new players I would encourage to quest through the content first and only queue every now and again. You really do miss out on a lot.

Played for a few months back in the day, when my 360 broke. First mmo experience and I had my fun, but I had a better time, having recently gotten into mmos, with games like the Secret World, Defiance and Guild Wars 2.

i cant believe this game is still alive and consumes peoples lives. i remember celeb Mila Kunis even saying she as addicted and had to stop lol.

i can truly say this game was simply amazing for the 5 years i played it for, and the only reason i still dont play is because my laptop took a dump.

There isnt any other mmo that even comes close to the fun factor that WoW had
