Watch_Dogs - Xbox One Review Build Versus E3 2012 Build Comparison

DSOGaming writes: "Watch_Dogs is a game we are really looking forward to. WCCFTECH has released its review for Ubisoft’s upcoming open-world title, alongside some new video footage from it. Thankfully, this footage is captured during a rainy night, which is perfect for comparing it with that amazing E3 2012 build that was showcased a while back. So let’s go and take a look at the differences between them."

I think there is no arguing that the game has been downgraded since the 2012 reveal. Unfortunately, a lot of times when a game is revealed at E3 (on a PC) it's more impressive than when it actually releases on consoles. That being said, with all the talk over the last year about Watch Dogs being downgraded here or there....really it actually looks really good. Downgraded, sure, but the particle effects, reflections, rain, etc still look amazing.

Webbyy3632d ago

Yup, Interesting article, We all know xbox one and ps4 graphics downgraded from E3. but then again, it's kinda hard to compare with screenshot from youtube vid playing..
Making such comparison that way for either ps4 and x1 is alil bit pushing it.

ginsunuva3632d ago

The thing is, that the e3 demo was never advertized as the final look on xbox one or ps4, sincce no one even knew about them anyway.

If the pc version still ends up like the e3 version, then there was no downgrade.

ProjectVulcan3631d ago (Edited 3631d ago )

If the PC version looks like the 2012 E3 version then yes, it's ok there was no downgrade for the most powerful platform.

The sort of things highlighted here are the exact sort of thing you expect to be better on a higher end Pc anyway. There is a lot more memory bandwidth and fillrate from high end cards to afford better anti aliasing, higher quality reflections and higher quality alpha effects like the explosions.

There is a fair chance it'll look like max settings on PC but you'll probably need a fairly tasty machine to max it. I say this, because Ubisoft can be rubbish at optimising for PC. The game will probably need 3 patches before it even runs properly.

john23632d ago

I won't be surprised if Nvidia announces 'specific' PhysX effects to be added via a new patch (that will bring those explosions back to life)

Future_20153632d ago (Edited 3632d ago )

there are exclusive features on release to the pc for NVIDIA cards which are HBAO plus, TXAA, Physx etc.

john23632d ago

@Vegamyster: I mean PhysX effects. Those Nvidia effects are really minor additions to be honest (TXAA and HBAO+).

tee_bag2423631d ago

@ john2

Are you kidding. The devil is in the details.

user56695103631d ago

@john2
theres more to it than just those. with physx you get better gfx effects. so better looking and sharper particle effect, better explosion, etc. but these can be done on other pc most likely it will just be optimized better for nvidia cards

But they did say the pc had PS4 like hardware

Bodge3632d ago

You got that backwards....

KwietStorm_BLM3632d ago

@Bodge

He's saying the PC that the original gameplay was running on had PS4 like hardware.

Dynasty20213632d ago

When it comes out on PC, which it looks better on of course with more advanced lighting as proven in the Nvidia trailer for the game a while back, mods will be all over it after a month or so.

ENB will have a lighting mod out for it and make it look as good as it did at reveal.

Look at Dark Souls 2 on PC now. With mods, the game looks almost exactly like it did at reveal before the downgrade.

abstractel3631d ago

I disagree that this is common practice. It's common for Ubisoft to pull this shit, but not for other developers. All Sony's first party games so far have been upgraded since they were first shown. Killzone received several boosts in different areas compared to its reveal, and Infamous also received polish since it's E3 gameplay debut. E3 2012 Watch Dogs isn't even technically something we shouldn't expect from this new-gen, and I am sure that's why they are releasing it before E3.

abstractel3631d ago (Edited 3631d ago )

Also, in the second video in that article the guy who talks about the game clearly doesn't fully understand game technology. He says "Tesselated water effects" while looking at the rain. There's no tesselation going on there, the tesselation is on the ocean surface, not on the rain or the drops on the asphalt. He also keeps saying the PC version will look as good as E3 2012 when Ubisoft has said that the only exclusive PC features are HBAO and Temporal Antialiasing. If that's true, the only benefits you are going to get on PC is better framerate, and higher resolution (depending on your specs) as well as the aforementioned Horizon Based Ambient Occlusion and Temporal Antialiasing.

user56695103631d ago (Edited 3631d ago )

your going to get better overall effect in everything. nice try though. you making excuses to the most obvious answers. answers that been there for gens before this. was you one of the gamers that said this last gen about how the only difference it resolution and frame rate, but now you stating it a big difference between ps3 and ps4. yeah that how pc will always compare to consoles.

gfx effect will be better and more sharper and each category. its crazy that people used the same bs excuse last gen comparing pc version to consoles, than suddenly can tell the difference and say what we been saying for year.

no people are try to use this bs excuse again. when gfx techniques get more demanding and console version resolution start dropping we are going to see a stop in the resolution argument and gameplay is going to be the only thing that matters

and people that try to act like the stuff thats going on in this game is the same to sony exclusive compare car explosion in WD to infamous. and tell me who spread out their resources. infamous explosion effects is garbage all you see is ugly black smoke. people act like its the holy grail but it only focus on some gfx effects, mainly neon particle effect(only) and textures. everything else average. its a great game but people feel they have to bash a game because it doesnt make their system look superior.

rivencleft3631d ago

The water effects I saw were spectacular, can't wait to play it soon, I don't really see it as a downgrade I guess being that it was shown on the PC, really could care less, still think it's going to be a great game.

not suprised at all, it's ashame though :(.

SonyPS3603631d ago

I agree with you that this is no surprise, but this is the worst comparison I've ever seen.

Blurry, small resolution screen captures of youtube videos. Hardly what I would call a comparison.

Very amateur, something anyone could do in 5 minutes, regardless of the text.

Letros3632d ago

Glad I have a good rig, looks like Ubisoft really messed this one up on the lolsoles.

Letros3631d ago (Edited 3631d ago )

Cry if you're playing it on a lolsole

SonyPS3603631d ago

I think you upset console owners.

BUT IT'S SO MUCH LESS EXPENSIVE!!1

Letros3631d ago

You get what you pay for

MadLad3631d ago (Edited 3631d ago )

Please stop purposely annoying the console gamers. You are just playing into the stereotype that we are all elitists, and it's making my time here as an omni-gamer who simply favors pc all that much harder.

BlackTar1873631d ago

lolsoles?

That's the worst attempt at making consoles in to a joke I've ever heard good job. You're doing the PC crowd justices and reaffirming why no one likes you.

i literally cant wait to see xbox1 footage

SonyPS3603631d ago

Xbox1, Ps4. Doesn't matter. The PC version will be the best, once again, despite being held back by consoles.

Father__Merrin3631d ago (Edited 3631d ago )

true depending on your spec PC version will be best, but console gamers will have this game and a good version of it at good setting equivalant

Watch Dogs Deserves A Remake, More Than Ever

With the world of information and technology, privacy and security growing every day, Watch Dogs deserves another chance in the spotlight, now more than ever.

RaidenBlack1004d ago

The only Ubi title that deserves a faithful remake right now is Splinter Cell 1.
All 2014+ Ubi titles are just underwhelming. Especially ones from 2016+ are just cancer.

LucasRuinedChildhood1004d ago (Edited 1004d ago )

Seriously, are we so far removed from Ubisoft actually making good games that people now praise Watch_Dogs in retrospect?

"Watch_Dogs has remained one of my favourite games of the last ten years." Jesus Christ.

HankHill1004d ago

I remember being so disappointed in Watch Dogs when I played it at release. It was alright, but I think I fell for the hype and I needed a game to play on my new PS4.

obidanshinobi1004d ago

This is what happens when mediocrity gets praised as good.
Standards are slipping across the whole entertainment industry.
What was once considering rubbish is now considered as OK, what once was OK is now being praised as good etc etc.

LamerTamer1004d ago

Everyone has their own likes. I liked it a lot myself. I played through it twice and liked the car chases and the open world with fairly decent environments and missions. It suffered from the whole downgrade thing where they showed graphics that weren't actually there. No game will appeal to everyone but it was still ambitious for it's time.

gantarat1004d ago

assassin's creed 1 should get a remake.

ExBee1004d ago

For certain! AC1 was brilliant at the time but with new graphics and gameplay it would be amazing! Do you prefer old combat or new though?

RaidenBlack1004d ago

I'd say a reimagining of AC1.
I direct AC1 remake would be a bad idea. It'll need better story pacing and significant better world building.

BlaqMagiq11004d ago

Old. Let it play like how it did with AC2-Syndicate style gameplay but refine the setting and story.

Profchaos1004d ago

It would need a lot changed for it to be enjoyable again as even back in 2007 on launch we were all complaining about it's repetitive gameplay go here perform one of three side quests repeat then assassination now do it over and over until a big battle with a unforgiving checkpoint system.

BlaqMagiq11004d ago

Absolutely. It needs it. The only AC I truly didn't enjoy.

chicken_in_the_corn1003d ago

I'd prefer it didn't. Ubisoft would make it so bloated, it wouldn't be anywhere near the original

smolinsk1004d ago (Edited 1004d ago )

Absolutely, this watch dogs legion was terrible boring.

Profchaos1004d ago (Edited 1004d ago )

As a fan of the franchise legion was garbage and I regretted my purchase for the first time in the franchise the entire thing felt like an experiment in NPC behaviour and released without the writers input on what makes a good story.

I don't think I'm alone in that feeling though as wrench and Aiden are brought back and the campaign was rewritten to fit them.

I am tempted to buy the season pass to play it again with Aiden but fool me twice shame on me I'm waiting for a deep sale

camel_toad1004d ago

Agreed. Despite the annoying hipness of the characters in part 2 I thought it was a really fun game. I was extremely disappointed and surprised at how many steps back they took with Legion. You'd think it was made by an entirely different team. Or was it?

It was just so devoid of fun.

LamerTamer1004d ago

Honestly one of my biggest annoyances with Legion is that they took out the camera views for the driving. I mean the behind the car view that they stuck us with is near unplayable. I always used a first person driving view. After two releases why did they take OUT features? I don't get it.

TheSinsibleOne1004d ago

The fist watchdog game was the best by far
After that they weren't weird and annoying with that hipster stuff. Aiden was a badass.

LamerTamer1004d ago

I thought so at first too. I got used to it and it ended up being good after some play time. I just had to give it a chance.

TheEnigma3131004d ago

Remake the PoP series from xbox/ps2/gc era

RaidenBlack1004d ago

They are remaking Sands of Time.

TheEnigma3131004d ago

That's good news. Hopefully it's done right.

Inside the Driver game that died so that Watch Dogs could live

From VG247: "When cars slide, they leave tyre marks. In a game like Driver, they’re an aesthetic touch, part of the inherent cool of a handbrake turn. But those dark shadows in the road also tell a story. From tyre marks, you can determine the speed of a vehicle, when it started to skid, and its ultimate direction of travel – long after the car itself has vanished into the distance."

vallencer1069d ago

Different spellings in different parts of the world friend. Tyre is a correct way to spell it.

Pridefall1069d ago

Dunno why you got downvpted when tyre is correct in Australia.

neutralgamer19921069d ago

Give us driver San Francisco remastered

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen1069d ago

Why did they stop making some of the best games ever? Driver was one of them.

Gameseeker_Frampt1068d ago

Assassins Creed 2 showed Ubisoft how to make money and Far Cry 2 showed them that gamers don't like complex ideas. Now Ubisoft just turns out games that are just variations of the same thing.

WeAreLegion1069d ago

Best driving mechanics ever made. Nothing has come close.

Gardenia1069d ago

A story driven game with pure driving gameplay. I'd love to see a new Driver game or a remake of the first one.

ApocalypseShadow1069d ago

Yes. This one. A definite remake of the first without adding any ridiculous fluff. The first game had great physics and sound for its time. The start of the car in the beginning cinema I watched constantly. My father and uncles were big muscle and classic car freaks. Only thing crazy about the game was the relentless cops in the last level. Insane the way those police cars were and launched at you.

Bleemcast made it look better just like PC emulators. But would definitely take a remake.
