Rival racing game developers Codemasters (the Grid and F1 series) and Turn 10 Studios (Forza) had a bit of fun on Friday when a certificate recognizing Forza Motorsport 5 as a nominee for a British Academy of Film and Television Arts award was mistakenly sent to Codemasters.

Codemasters, based in the United Kingdom, politely tweeted to Turn 10, in suburban Seattle, that they may have something that belonged to them, hinting that the nomination was being held for ransom. Turn 10, noting that tomorrow (April 7) is National Beer Day in the United States, asked if a pint might pay for its release.
Then things escalated.
Codemasters responded with a Tweet implying the certificate had been folded into a paper airplane. "Forza 5 Plane DLC confirmed?" Turn 10 "thanked" them for "spoiling" an upcoming surprise. Then Codemasters sent photographic assurance the certificate was being kept "in a safe place." The picture was of the nomination taped above a urinal.
BAFTA ultimately stepped in to apologize for the mixup and assure that the proper credentials would be sent to Turn 10.
The nomination was for best sports video game. Incidentally, Codemasters earned two nominations in the category, for Grid 2 and F1 2013. EA Sports’ FIFA 14 was named the winner on March 12.
