Alien: Isolation set for a Halloween debut

Sega’s survival horror game Alien: Isolation will be released on October 7, 2014, just in time for Halloween. The game will debut on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.

“We couldn’t be happier to finally announce a date for Alien: Isolation,” Alistair Hope, Creative Lead at Creative Assembly said. “The reaction we have seen so far has been simply incredible, from the screams and shrieks to the cold sweats and racing hearts. It’s the Alien game that we’ve always wanted to play and we can’t wait to let everyone get their hands on it this fall.”

We recently had the chance to check the game out at GDC, and were encouraged by what we saw. Following the disastrous release of Aliens: Colonial Marines, the property is taking a back-to-basics approach. Rather than holding off hundreds of angry Xenomorphs, armed with the best in future warfare, you are unarmed and being stalked by a single creature hunting you. In that it sticks closer to Ridley Scott’s 1979 Alien film than James Cameron’s 1986 Aliens, which arguably lends itself more easily to a video game adaptation.

The Alien series is getting a new video game installment with Aliens: Fireteam. The co-op shooter follows a group of Colonial Marines tasked with hunting down alien colonies.

The new game is a third-person shooter in the vein of Left 4 Dead, where three players squad up and blast through waves of enemies. Its set after the events of Aliens 3 in a world where alien outbreaks are well-known by the public and teams are sent out to deal with the threat. The game features a variety of creatures from the series including 11 different Xenomorph varieties.

Season 2 of Apex Legends, Respawn Entertainment’s popular battle royale, is on the horizon and the game studio is set to share some details during E3 2019. Before that, though, Respawn is delivering the first limited-time event and will also be hosting a double XP weekend during E3. The event is called Legendary Hunt, and features a special player queue for the best players around. Completion of its challenges nets you unique skins for one of the legends.

During the big MOBA boom, Smite stood out primarily for its unique perspective. Instead of the traditional isometric view that games like League of Legends and DOTA 2 used, Smite was played from a more traditional third-person point of view. This made it far more approachable than its competitors, and it has enjoyed a loyal fan base for the last decade.
