So, why another The Amityville Horror“? Because they can. And because the last attempt at a reboot was in 2005 (you know, the one starring Ryan Reynolds) which, in Hollywood years, is ancient history. So Dimension Films and Blumhouse Productions are going to bring this back to life, and they are going Disney Channel with the lead.

Bella Thorne (“Shake It Up!“) will star in the film, presumably as one of Jennifer Jason Leigh‘s three children, who all move into the spooky house where things will get scary. Making stuff go bang in the night behind the camera will be Franck Khalfoun (whose last effort was the “Maniac” do-over), with the movie slated for a January 2, 2015 release. Oh, and while there were originally plans to do this found-footage style, thankfully that idea has been totally scrapped. [The Wrap/Bloody Disgusting]

Bachelorette” writer/director Leslye Headland is gearing up her followup, “Sleeping With Other People,” but there are some changes in the works. First, while Jason Sudeikis is still on board, the previously reported Kirsten Dunst has been swapped out with Alison Brie, while Adam Scott will return once again to work with Headland after featuring in “Bachelorette.” Not bad. The story will revolve around a womanizer and a serial cheater who meet and fall in love. [THR]

John Leguizamo has joined Kristen Stewart, Jesse Eisenberg, Uma Thurman and Walton Goggins in “American Ultra.” Penned by Max Landis (“Chronicle“) and with Nima Nourizadeh (“Project X”) behind the camera, the “Adventureland” pair will be at the centre of another adventure about “a stoner with a past that makes him the target of a government operation to eliminate him.” Production starts next month. [The Wrap]

Lastly, Jeremy Irons and Jonathan Rhys Meyers are joining Jessica Chastain and Vanessa Redgrave for “The Secret Scripture.” While there is no word on a director, IMDb says Thaddeus O’Sullivan will get the gig telling the story of a 100-year-old mental patient whose decision to investigate her past shakes loose some troubling memories. Chastain and Redgrave will play the younger and older version of the the lead character. Production starts in June. [The Irish Independent]
