Respawn have provided a little more insight into exactly what purpose the AI-controlled bots in Titanfall serve, and explain the differences between them.

What about all that PR BS they were spewing about the power of the cloud being necessary for the AI?

Not saying anything about that anymore are they? I hate when companies flat out lie to me.

PeaSFor3724d ago

its for farming points, nothing more nothing less. the game is noob friendly so they have to accomodate some peoples.

Godmars2903724d ago

"They all lie though"

More to the point that companies need to be called and held accountable for doing it.

Kingthrash3603724d ago

yeah but not as openly to where it seems like they think we are too stupid to notice...it's why there is no xb1 sitting next to my ps4/ps3/360/wii/3ds/vita/gb/ne s/snes/gc/64/dc/saturn/ps2/ps1 systems collections. not to say none of them have lied but none of them has lied to the point that i feel like they think im dumb.

Salooh3724d ago

I don't see the point of calculating AI in the cloud , just put the easy AI from any campaign game or co-op game to the multiplayer and you will get the same result. It's not like titanfall demand a lot of power from the X1 or PC to use the cloud for saving power.

n4rc3724d ago

What do you mean you don't see why?

Where are they supposed to come from on a dedicated server? Pick a random player to host them?

"Cloud" AI is the only way they exist.

MysticStrummer3724d ago

"I don't see the point of calculating AI in the cloud"

Not exactly a ringing endorsement for the process is it? I wonder if part of their exclusivity deal was to set it up that way and try to make the cloud seem necessary. The result seems to be AI from two generations ago at least.

"Cloud AI is the only way they exist."

I hope you're either joking or just started gaming with this new console generation and don't know any better...

nukeitall3724d ago

@n4rc:

if you were to play this game on PS4 then yes, it would be player hosted just like KZ: Shadowfall is essentially P2P with proxy servers.

OC_MurphysLaw3724d ago

For those not understanding why its 100% important that the AI is hosted in the cloud and not on a player hosted console its rather simple. Hosting the AI off the dedicated servers means everyone sees the same thing from the AI and there is no chance for some kind of "host advantage" involving AI of not only the on the ground grunts but also of the AI that takes over when you leave your Titan and have it follow or guard.

malokevi3724d ago (Edited 3724d ago )

http://www.respawn.com/news...

^^ was written months ago by Respawn in an attempt to explain why the cloud is important to their vision. Nowhere does it emphasize AI. It's a perfectly reasonable writeup about the practical applications for the Azure cloud.

People can complain about bots all day, but it changes nothing. The game is crazy fun, and the bots add to the fun rather than take away from it. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Kribwalker3724d ago

Lol @kingthrash

PS3 was one of the worst ever for lieing to consumers, but it found a place next to your other honest companies

Cross game chat, all games will be 1080p, those fake Killzone videos and my favorite

"Sony Computer Entertainment president Ken Kutaragi has claimed that the PlayStation 3 will be capable of running games at an unprecedented 120 frames per second"

Rainstorm813724d ago

Only noobs want to play with bots/dumb AI in a competitive MP game......& only fanboys pretend like its a good decision

I never once played Gears and anyone was happy that a bot was on our team....and Gears bots look more advanced than Titanfall's judging by difficulty

miDnIghtEr20C_SfF3724d ago

Sony doesn't lie! Sony never lies! They are here for us.. the gamer! They are the best. They don't want our money, they just want us to have the greatest time ever playing on a video game console.

It's still being processed in the Cloud, according to Respawn. But they don't seem to be too bothered about talking about it now.

Back in the January they corrected an article with this Tweet:

"This article is wrong, AI is processed in the cloud. I think you misunderstood."

The article was then corrected

venom063724d ago

this whole "BOTS" thing is REALLY stupid and just shows how much training wheels are attached to the game.. OF COURSE people are gonna be over-hyped about this game cause it's so easy a brain-dead monkey can play and be good (kinda like most CoD games).. if other games like Battlefield, Halo, Gears or CS:GO had dumb bots, useless bots running around, those games would get SLAUGHTERED in the press because of them....

BG115793724d ago

What a BS explanation about why bots are there...
They are just needed because of the different size of the titans and the soldiers.
The titans are 7 to 10 times bigger than the soldier. So the maps where design big enough to permit to have 12 titans at the same time without being on top of each other. The problem lies when there are no titans at all in the map. The map is 7 to 10 times bigger than it should it be. Making it to big for the soldier. This makes the map empty.
They couldn't had more players because they would have to increase the size of the map, because more titans. So they put in there bots...

Pandamobile3724d ago

All the AI in the game is calculated in the cloud (which is just the marketing term for "we do it all server-side".

How is that a lie?

frostypants3723d ago

Agreed. Not really a lie at all...the only ridiculous part of it all is people pretending it's innovative.

mhunterjr3724d ago (Edited 3724d ago )

The bots aren't the only AI. The titans can be utilized in AI mode as well. From a technical standpoint, it wouldn't be logical to have those AI processes being handled by a p2p host. Whichever user ended up being the host would have a crap ton of processes being handled on his unit, and any dips in his performance would effect the the behavior of all 11 other peoples titans... It would make for an uneven/unfair experience.

Not to mention the amount of CPU that would need to be reserved for host duties... That would make 60fps far less likely ...

rdgneoz33724d ago

Seeing as it's 792p, being calculated client side would probably drop it to 30 fps and 720p.

nukeitall3724d ago (Edited 3724d ago )

@rd:

why would you want it client side anyhow?

Heard of lag anyone? P2P multiplayer is so last gen, and if you want that stick to the PS4. You can get 1080p at 60fps and one awesome laggy experience there.

Heck, one person with a lag switch is enough to make your online experience one frustrating match!

I will take 720p with dedicated servers and cloud any day.

OC_MurphysLaw3724d ago

@nukeitail nailed it... hosted servers would give host advantage on any and all AI including Titan AI. On top of that as stated the potential for lag switches would just ruin the experience.

RexLex3724d ago (Edited 3724d ago )

Makes sense that it is probably being calculated on the cloud,.. that is why it takes them 4-5 seconds to react to you,..

Ai is absolute joke.

NoLongerHereCBA3724d ago

Game would be much to slow if you had to be careful for all the AI shooting at you. Wall running would much quicker become the death of you which would make the gameplay more BF/CSS in terms of speed and that is not what Titanfall is all about.

But that's just my take on it. I do agree that they seem really dumb. But I take them as canon fodder just as in LoL etc.

KarrBOMB3724d ago

Honestly, it's close to the worst AI I've seen. I watched the Beta play on youtube and the guy playing, just ran around snapping AI players necks, literally like 5-10 at a time while other bots just stared or could do nothing but wait to be next.

Pandamobile3724d ago (Edited 3724d ago )

You guys realize the AI is supposed to be dumb, right?

They're minions, not players. Their job is to be cannon fodder and pose a small threat to experienced players.

mhunterjr3724d ago (Edited 3724d ago )

Then Explain why the Titan AI is so good... The behavior of the grunts is obviously a design choice. If folks were getting killed by bots while fighting another player, THAT would be something to complain about...

Volkama3724d ago

That's true Mhunterjr, I've never even had to think about what my AI titan is doing and that's a testament to the AI working well.

I find in many cases people confuse "good AI" with "difficult to beat". They could give those grunts 100% accuracy, 100% LoS perception, remove every facet of the AI routine besides "shoot nearest hostile target in LoS!" and they would be very difficult to beat. But they wouldn't be "good AI".

nohopeinc3724d ago

They said the exact opposite of what you claim they said. They stated the cloud did nothing for the AI, the AI did not learn at all in anyway.

curtis923724d ago

See, it's when devs have to keep coming out and explaining their rationale for things that you have to wonder if it was a good decision. I've played the beta and IMO, I'd rather it was all pvp with less emphasis on titans.

Also for those asking, the cloud stuff (I think we can all agree at this point) is just PR spin for "oops, we have weak hardware".

Titanfall being identical on 360 & xb1 prove this, among many other examples.

darkequitus3724d ago

Less emphasis on titans would no longer make it titan fall. Instead just another frag fest

mediate-this3724d ago

You played tf on 360? So you know its identical to x1, quit spewing garbage.

Ace Killa 083724d ago

Well... that just ... I'm shock that they added bots for noob friendly people. Hell CS had bots that were challenging yet not impossible. I don't agree with the bots being dumbdown and for racking up points. To me it just to fill in the gap that they are not able to fill with real players.

As long as the bots kills do not go into the score to win the match, if it does than that's even more noob friendly.

Salooh3724d ago (Edited 3724d ago )

'' They will be like ‘oh, there’s a Pilot coming through.’ ‘I don’t see what the big deal about Pilots is anyway.’ ''

Perfect excuse for dumb AI lol.

These ideas to make games easier for beginners are the reason why we get worst games. Easier games , less content to make it less complicated , no challenge ..etc

Although the late 2000s Turok wasn't my favorite, I would love a new entry. Open world survival with shotguns and dinosaurs. Not sure how we'd get the fusion cannon, but that would be pretty sweet too.

MadLad598d ago

Lol

All of these games are pretty much universally praised. Outside of Timeshift I literally own all of these.

Venoxn4g598d ago (Edited 598d ago )

XIII, The Darkness 2, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Timesplitters: future perfect, Bulletstorm are awesome games

An ode to Titanfall: The last twitch shooter I'll probably ever enjoy

Windows Central: "Titanfall 1 is being sunset, taken off storefronts by EA. While the servers remain live for now, one has to wonder just how much time it has left. I look back and pay tribute to the last "twitch"-styled shooter I ever truly loved."

Respawn Entertainment is Discontinuing Sales of Original Titanfall

Sales for the original Titanfall are being discontinued.
It will be pulled from subscription services on March 1, 2022.

Ethereal879d ago

Physical media. Unfortunately the way games are going these days game servers will eventually be shut down and you can stare at the menu and wish you could play the game again.

littletad879d ago

This is why reading is so important. Nothing to do with digital or physical media. The game, which is online only, is being delisted because of DDOS and other hacker attacks. The case got so bad that only six players in the world log on. For PC. Rather than fix it, they continued to sell the game, broken as it is, and only now just decided to call it quits. But please, go on thinking what you will.

Ethereal877d ago

I'm aware of the DDOS attacks and that this case is not typical. This game would eventually have it's servers shutdown regardless of the current situation so that is a moot point. My comment was in a general sense and that there are instances in which games can be preserved physically when official support ends.

Let's recap your first sentence. I said, "the way GAMES are going these days" indicating a broader stroke than just this game. I agree, reading IS important. I was simply stating the obvious downsides of the digital marketplaces and online only trends in games these days. I could even make the argument that the online only offering which has allowed hacker manipulation has impacted the preservation of this great game. My comment is valid in the general sense and thank you for your permission to continue to think what I will.
