Blake Snell

SF Starting Pitcher #7

Giants placed Blake Snell on the 15-day injured list with a left adductor strain.

Brutal. The reigning NL Cy Young will be sidelined for at least the next couple weeks after being one of the big names in the free agent market this offseason. In his three starts with the Giants, Snell is 0-3 with a 11.57 ERA, 1.97 WHIP and a 12/5 K/BB ratio. The 31-year-old southpaw hasn’t always had his best stuff at the beginning of the season, but hitting the injured list after he signed a two-year, $62 million contract is disaster for a Giants team that came into the season riddled with injuries to their pitching staff.
Ryne Nelson

ARI Starting Pitcher #19

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Ryne Nelson (elbow) is throwing a bullpen session on Wednesday.

Nelson was placed on the injured list last week after he was hit in the elbow by a line drive off the bat of Mike Yastrzemski. It sounds like Nelson will be need the minimum 15 days before he can be active, but it remains to be seen where he’ll land in the rotation with the D-backs bringing in Jordan Montgomery.

STL Right Fielder #18

Cardinals optioned Jordan Walker to Triple-A Memphis.

It wasn’t the major league start the 21-year-old outfielder expected and because of that, the team will send him to Memphis to continue to develop. Walker made the Cardinals’ Opening Day roster, but slashed a horrid .155/.239/.259 in his 67 plate appearances. He didn’t record a hit in 12 of his 20 games played this season.
Nolan Jones

COL Left Fielder #22

Nolan Jones was removed from Tuesday’s game against the Padres due to back stiffness.

Jones snapped an 0-for-26 drought at the plate before making an early exit from Tuesday’s contest against the Padres. There should be an update on his status prior to Wednesday’s showdown, but fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.
Logan Gilbert

SEA Starting Pitcher #36

Logan Gilbert pitched two-hit ball for 6 2/3 innings as the Mariners shut out the Rangers 4-0 on Tuesday.

Gilbert was wild early and ended up walking four, but it didn’t matter. He topped out at 98.5 mph tonight while striking out six and lowering his ERA to 1.87. He’s due to face the Diamondbacks next.
Mike Tauchman

CHC Left Fielder #40

Mike Tauchman went 2-for-3 with two homers and four RBI on Tuesday in the Cubs’ win over the Astros.

Tauchman’s home run came just shortly after Cody Bellinger kicked things off with a two-run homer of his own. Tauchman’s blast, his first of the year, plated three runs in total and pushed the Cubs out to a 5-0 lead, which proved to be more than enough for the Cubs, but Tauchman was just getting started. In the bottom of the eighth, Tauchman would send a 400-foot blast to center for his second homer of the day, padding the Cubs’ already solid lead. Tauchman is just above league average in exit velo and barrel rate this season. We wouldn’t read too much into this mini-power surge.
Evan Phillips

LAD Relief Pitcher #59

Evan Phillips threw a scoreless ninth inning to preserve the Dodgers’ 4-1 win over the Nationals, collecting his sixth save of the season, despite allowing three walks and one hit.

Yes, Phillips allowed four baserunners and no runs. With runners on first and second, CJ Abrams laced a single to right field, but the Nationals third base coach put up a late stop sign that saw Luis Garcia Jr. get caught in a rundown between third and home. After Garcia was tagged out, Phillips walked Eddie Rosario to load the bases but struck out Jesse Winker to end the game. It took 32 pitches, but Phillips secured his sixth save of the year and lowered his ERA to 0.96.
Eloy Jimenez

CWS Left Fielder #74

Eloy Jiménez went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in Tuesday’s loss to the Twins.

Jiménez got the scoring started for the lowly White Sox in the fourth inning when he got the best of Pablo López and sent a 417-foot blast into the left-field stands to put his team up 3-1. As has been the case for many White Sox players, Jiménez has largely underwhelmed to start the season. He entered the day batting .176, and Tuesday’s homer marks just his second of the season. He’s hard to trust as anything more than a desperation play until his bat heats up.
Erick Fedde

CWS Starting Pitcher #20

Erick Fedde struck out a career-high 11 and allowed one run over six innings on Tuesday in a no-decision against the Twins.

Fedde struck out six batters through the first three innings and limited Minnesota’s lineup to just one run over six frames. The 31-year-old veteran righty allowed only three baserunners in this one, with his lone run allowed coming on a Max Kepler single. Fedde has been a surprising bright spot for the White Sox through the first month of the season. Still sitting on a 1-0 record, he also boasts a 2.73 ERA and holds a 30/9 K/BB ratio across 26 1/3 innings of work. His next start is scheduled for Sunday against the Rays.
CJ Abrams

WAS Shortstop #5

CJ Abrams went 3-for-5 and was caught stealing in a loss to the Dodgers on Tuesday.

All three of Abrams’ hits were singles, but Abrams is now slashing .316/.372/.671 on the season. He was hitting leadoff even against a lefty and continues to make a tremendous amount of contact. The only blemish is that this was the second time Abrams was caught stealing this year to go along with four steals. However, anybody who thought the 23-year-old’s performance in 2023 was a fluke might be regretting not having him on their fantasy team.
