Starwood's W Hotel brand could be coming to Toronto's Entertainment District sometime soon. According to a Curbed tipster, Freed Developments is getting ready to launch a new hotel and condo project which may be attached to the W Hotel brand. Curbed Toronto received these images showing the active and planned projects in the Entertainment corridor with the W prominently featured as a pre-launch project. It appears the proposed development would sit next to Le Germain Hotel, across the street from Wayne Gretzky's Restaurant.
The W brand established itself as one of the luxury boutique hotels of the early 21st century through its properties in New York and around the world. Despite all the luxury developments in Toronto over the last couple of years with the addition of the Shangri-La, Ritz-Carlton, Trump and Four Seasons, the W Hotel has not made its way to Toronto. There have been many rumours over the years of a W property coming to the city but nothing came of it. The Freed Group has experience bringing hotel/condo developments to market with their successful Thompson Hotel project and would be a good potential partner with the W brand.
