Titanfall will be the next Modern Warfare l 2DX

The hype surrounding Titanfall hearkens to Call of Duty’s next-gen move in 2007. You know, the one that amassed billions in profit with its twitch reflex multiplayer, Modern Warfare. Well, it looks like EA is about to enjoy the same acclaim Activision garnered.

Is really being the 'next Call of Duty' something to be heralded? Sad times

Naga3720d ago (Edited 3720d ago )

The magic that made the original Call of Duty games so great has long been absent from the series. If this game somehow manages to recapture that long lost essence which made that series so beloved in the first place... then damn right it's something to be heralded.

cleft53720d ago (Edited 3720d ago )

In order for Titanfall to be the next Modern Warfare it would need to be on all of the consoles. Remember Modern Warfare became what it was because it was on everything, while Halo was only on the 360. Limiting Titanfall to just Microsoft platform means this will be closer to the next Gears of War than anything else.

thezeldadoth3720d ago

360, xbox one, and PC. three platforms.

Eonjay3720d ago (Edited 3720d ago )

As far as the new FPS champ goes, its a forgone conclusion that Destiny is the winner... almost by default.

EA really did themselves a disservice by making this exclusive. With the level of hype and the success of the PS4, they could have really struck back at Activision early this gen and gotten their IP to as many gamers as possible.

Destiny will crush this game. Xbox and PlayStation gamers will play this. It already has more combined preorders and its still 6 months away. You could chalk that up to Bungee's pedigree but either way Activision comes out on top; again.

Kingthrash3603720d ago (Edited 3720d ago )

imo for them to take a crown they need to be reviewed in the same light as the top fps today.
so the graphics, the details, the weapons, the ai, the lack of single player, destruction level, pvp count, weapon balance, frames per, weapon count, replayability ...etc

GhostTurtle3720d ago

I agree with @Whiskeyjacked

"Is really being the 'next Call of Duty' something to be heralded? Sad times"

See I hate this hipster gaming logic. People jump on the COD hate bandwagon but haven't even got a slightest clue about the pedigree the past games had.

COD: MW1 and MW2 were classic games (which I play to this day). The series took a complete nosedive after IW left.

Titanfall assuming the throne after MW2 is a brilliant thing for those GAMERS who actually play the games and KNOW what its all about as opposed to spouting the same baseless and generic comments on here.

Do you even game bro? #broscience

antz11043719d ago

@ Cleft

IMO using Halo as a comparison is a poor choice, its still the mother of all modern day FPS' and far more popular.

I shall write an article stating why it WONT be the next modern warfare, only one of us can be right.... 50/50 chance to say i told ya so! /rolls eyes

Edit: i was just poking fun at these kinds of articles that attempt to "predict" something when in reality theres a 50/50 chance of being either right or wrong, not much to see here, move along.

say whatever you want but COD matters and sells, the reason TF is an exclusive is because of money. The reason Respawn left activision and wanted more control over their IP9Rigthfulyl so) was because of money

to beat COD you have to have the sale numbers to back it up and to say launching a new IP exclusive to xbox is gonna do that is just expecting too much

I am sure TF will sell really well and hopefully it will be an amazing game but COD is an monster. its a billion dollar in 24-48 hours kind of monster

activision went with a 3 teams/3 years development cycle for new COD games so expect more quality and more polish for future games. Let's be honest COD is a lot of fun to play

candoa3720d ago

I do agree COD is a monster, but Respawn created that monster, thats what a lot of you guys forget.

showtimefolks3720d ago

candoa

no doubt but that monster only grew after the original developers left. There are not any games that are released yearly and sell into billions, yes that's with an capital B

ALLWRONG3720d ago

Love or hate, CoD is the largest and highest selling FPS franchise of all time. Who wouldn't strive to beat that? Surly not the guys who created CoD.

Nice try though.

kingrev3720d ago

But remember COD sells in "ALL" Platforms and I'll say it again "ALL" platforms, so no way on earth is Titanfall going to beat it in terms of sales, does it have a future on surpassing COD if they go multi platform? Hell yeah will it be instant? NO, end off.

BTW we talking sales and killing cod, not which one is better and blah blah

geddesmond3720d ago

No it won't be the next COD because it needs to be multiplat in order for it to have a chance of selling anything near COD numbers. Cause lets face it, when developers want the next COD, they ain't talking gameplay. They are talking huge sales.

DOOMZ3720d ago (Edited 3720d ago )

It will be much better than that!!!

ltachiUchiha3720d ago

I do think it will be enjoyed by millions but without the ps3/ps4/wiiU not included, it wont come close sales wise.

lolCHILLbro3720d ago

Yes will it will have COD type success, it might not sell as many units (maybe) but it will get great reviews, the game is awesome and so many people are talking about it, its almost like your not a gamer if you dont play Titanfall

Cupid_Viper_33720d ago

"its almost like your not a gamer if you dont play Titanfall"

lol, chill bro...

_FantasmA_3720d ago (Edited 3720d ago )

So it will suck? It will be a noob friendly game? It will be recycled every year for the next 10 years? I can see it now, in 2021, we will be on Titanfall 8: Robot Warfare Ghost Ops with robots that move out of the way when you go near them and robotic canines that attack nearby enemies. Can't wait.

Chard, you make no sense. Activison is bad, but EA is worse. Activision only has a few franchises to ruin every year, while EA ruins of all them.

Chard3720d ago (Edited 3720d ago )

Missing the point. COD became the mess it is now because Activision owns the IP, and was able to make bad decisions like having annual releases and letting Treyarch, Sledghammer etc make main entries in the series.
Infinity Ward employees left and formed Respawn so they could have creative control over their IP, and the results (I hope) should be comparable to the magic that COD4:MW brought us.

Chard3720d ago

Repeat; Respawn owns the Titanfall IP, not EA. EA only has publishing rights, unlike with COD, where Activision owns the IP and are free to ruin it.

In this case, EA appear to have misread the market and made a bad decision regarding exclusivity. I'm sure they regret it and PS4 will get some Titan action eventually.

Chard3720d ago

Respawn deserves success, I just hope PS4 gets some love from them soon.

barb_wire3720d ago

It won't - don't expect anything from Respawn for the PS4.. guarantee they've already signed the contracts with MS to keep Titanfall on xbox permanently

fluffydelusions3720d ago

For TF1 sure but anything beyond that who knows. Regardless I'll be playing on PC so I don't care either way.

showtimefolks3720d ago

barb_wire

can we please get the article or paperwork that you saw that has you guaranteed?

from all the reports respawn were pissed that EA went behind their backs to sign an exclusive deal with MS. Also i can Guarantee you that TF will be on ps4 under a new name like TF GOTy edition or something.

unless MS is willing to write a check big enough to cover the cost of ps4/ps3 sales and for all of you out there thinking MS has unlimited funding. Investors are pissed at xbox brand costing them so much money, so if this way of keep spending keeps up than don't be surprised if xbox brand is actually sold off to someone else

Although the late 2000s Turok wasn't my favorite, I would love a new entry. Open world survival with shotguns and dinosaurs. Not sure how we'd get the fusion cannon, but that would be pretty sweet too.

MadLad600d ago

Lol

All of these games are pretty much universally praised. Outside of Timeshift I literally own all of these.

Venoxn4g600d ago (Edited 600d ago )

XIII, The Darkness 2, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Timesplitters: future perfect, Bulletstorm are awesome games

I played them all, they are all good in their own way
I used to be obsessed with FPS games

An ode to Titanfall: The last twitch shooter I'll probably ever enjoy

Windows Central: "Titanfall 1 is being sunset, taken off storefronts by EA. While the servers remain live for now, one has to wonder just how much time it has left. I look back and pay tribute to the last "twitch"-styled shooter I ever truly loved."

Respawn Entertainment is Discontinuing Sales of Original Titanfall

Sales for the original Titanfall are being discontinued.
It will be pulled from subscription services on March 1, 2022.

Physical media. Unfortunately the way games are going these days game servers will eventually be shut down and you can stare at the menu and wish you could play the game again.

littletad881d ago

This is why reading is so important. Nothing to do with digital or physical media. The game, which is online only, is being delisted because of DDOS and other hacker attacks. The case got so bad that only six players in the world log on. For PC. Rather than fix it, they continued to sell the game, broken as it is, and only now just decided to call it quits. But please, go on thinking what you will.

Ethereal879d ago

I'm aware of the DDOS attacks and that this case is not typical. This game would eventually have it's servers shutdown regardless of the current situation so that is a moot point. My comment was in a general sense and that there are instances in which games can be preserved physically when official support ends.

Let's recap your first sentence. I said, "the way GAMES are going these days" indicating a broader stroke than just this game. I agree, reading IS important. I was simply stating the obvious downsides of the digital marketplaces and online only trends in games these days. I could even make the argument that the online only offering which has allowed hacker manipulation has impacted the preservation of this great game. My comment is valid in the general sense and thank you for your permission to continue to think what I will.
