Close your eyes, and think back to a really awesome moment you had while working out. Maybe you lost yourself in your cycling class's soundtrack, took gorgeous pictures along the course of a 5k fun run, or did a double take when you saw your flexed triceps in the gym mirror. Whatever it is, remembering a positive memory about exercise can seriously boost your motivation to work out, according to a new study published in Memory.

For the study, researchers at the University of New Hampshire asked more than 200 undergrad students about their exercise habits, their academics (to disguise the study's purpose), and their motivation in both areas. Researchers then asked some of the students to describe either a positive or negative memory that they thought would help motivate them to exercise.

The researchers found that, eight days later, the students who had recalled a positive exercise memory reported exercising more than those who thought of a negative one—and they exercised way more than those who didn't take a trip down memory lane at all.
