KUALA LUMPUR — In his first statement today (July 28) hours after being dropped from Cabinet, Mr Muhyiddin Yassin defended his comment about the controversial 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) over the weekend as remarks made in the interest of the public.

Despite that, the former prime minister said he will continue serving as United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) deputy president to further strengthen the party and return the trust of the public, especially the Malays, towards the ruling party.

“In the 1MBD issue, I have my own principles and stand in defending the rights of the public, the good name of the party and the country’s interest,” Mr Muhyiddin said in a statement.

“If my stand in this issue has caused me to be dropped from the Cabinet then (so) be it.” MALAY MAIL ONLINE
