Can Titanfall turn the tides of criticism for the Xbox One?

IM PLAYIN asks if Titanfall can change perceptions of the Xbox One.

"I think the future perception of the Xbox One rides on the success of Titanfall, depending on how it’s received. If it’s a success, the critics might start to look at the One for its potential, rather than its shortcomings. If it bombs, then we should expect a lot more criticism coming the One’s way – warranted or not. I think, either way, there probably won’t be a unilateral agreement that Titanfall is a brilliant game. People will always pick holes in Titanfall and One fans will inevitably clutch at any bit of success in the game that they can find, whether it deserves it or not."

It's only being criticised by commenters on websites. at launch the x1 got good reviews, actually was higher rated than the ps4 but the power not being as high as the ps4's will eventually make the reviewers turn to the side with the commenters.

No more games will be like ryse or killzone, just tech demos with style over substance, later the games will get better looking and will play better and all will be well.

***It's only being criticised by commenters on websites.***

Normally I don't respond to these sort of things, but after reading the latest "written Ad" for the game in Popular Science, I have to.

Trust the people you know more than the people who make comments and the reviewers of the games. You absolutely cannot trust either to truly give the score a game deserves.

EA has paid for written adverts from sites and magazines, as mentioned above by me. The latest issue of Popular Science titled "The Most Addictive Game Ever" and is just a single page dedicated to how awesome Titanfall is. The game isn't even out yet and is being compared to some of the most addictive games since the 80s and 90s that have been played for more hours than any other game ever made. Heck, Flappy Bird had more people download and play it in its last week than those who played the Titanfall beta.

In the end, trust those you know. Not the Internet. Too much shady things going on by trolls and companies.

stopped reading your dumb comment after you said "x1 got good reviews, was higher rated than the ps4"

The majority of people who have nothing but negative things to say about Xbox One are people who don't have have it and made their choice of what console they will game on for the time being this gen. But I know even the biggest fanboys will eventually come down off their early gen picking sides high and get both.

The biggest problem with Xbox One is its price tag. Right now with no big time exclusives out on either side its obvious why PS4 is winning at $400 and had a much better track recond towards the end of PS3 life cycle with exclusives.

I agree with you but not on all. I don't think games exclusives or not has anything to do with the flat X1 sales. In my opinion Micr$$$oft gambled on the TV stuff and as of now no one if flocking to the X1 because they want it. No matter how you look at the TV options that or on the X1 you pretty much already have everything that it can do. And on top of that it's going to cost more money. In addition to the $500 X1 cost you'll add the XBL each month plus higher bandwidth usage and maybe a higher ISP bill depending on your service. Who would want that? I just don't know who they thought was the market for that would be. Then the kinect and as of now only the X1 hardcore fans say it's useful. Again like the tv stuff no one wants its. And then the $500 cost it's just to high. I think most of us can agree that they have some issues but what the issues are and how to solve them we my not agree on. I would love to know how the Xbox gaming division sold their share holders on the X1 ideas. I find it shocking they agreed to it.

No matter how well made an xboxone title is, there will always be people saying that the opposing console could have done it better due to the tech differences. An amazing title like Titanfall will definitely show the great potential for next gen overall though.

Christopher3724d ago

And vice versa. It's the Internet, don't forget there's always a "vice versa."

NeoTribe3724d ago

No, because its not a real exclusive. The only reason titan fall is even gettingthis much attention ia because ms has convinced people its a killer ms exclusive. It will float on by like all the other dime a dozen fps games. Cod and bf aint going nowhere.

Kiwi663724d ago

its not really ms convincing people its mainly word of mouth especially from those that played the beta in fact i have seen most of the stuff is from respawn themselves i don't think ms say much at all

mcarsehat3724d ago (Edited 3724d ago )

Ive played it and it is really good - the beta was as smooth as puddin', just one fault, thats all i found.

i wont say it because there will be a news story saying an INSIDER said this problem

lolCHILLbro3724d ago (Edited 3724d ago )

Maybe Titanfall is just a great game made by a talented studio maybe? maybe thats why people praise it and give it attention?

Ra30303724d ago (Edited 3724d ago )

And "maybe" EA and Micr$$$oft paid people since last June to say nothing but good things about Titanbot. Keep in mind we're talking about EA and Micro$$$oft. And EA with lawsuits and Micro$$$oft has a new console that only the hardcore fanboys picked up on release and since then sales are FLAT. So what do we have.........Titanbot great game or game that really, really, really needs to sell and not just sell it needs to sell consoles. Respawn is set sells or not. But EA and Mic$$$oft has much more riding on it. So great game or total HYPE? Most since the beta are going with hype but most to include myself with will say its a good game but no way can it live up to the hype. But each to his own. And like with everything I say...this is my opinion.

Although the late 2000s Turok wasn't my favorite, I would love a new entry. Open world survival with shotguns and dinosaurs. Not sure how we'd get the fusion cannon, but that would be pretty sweet too.

MadLad603d ago

Lol

All of these games are pretty much universally praised. Outside of Timeshift I literally own all of these.

Venoxn4g603d ago (Edited 603d ago )

XIII, The Darkness 2, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Timesplitters: future perfect, Bulletstorm are awesome games

I played them all, they are all good in their own way
I used to be obsessed with FPS games

An ode to Titanfall: The last twitch shooter I'll probably ever enjoy

Windows Central: "Titanfall 1 is being sunset, taken off storefronts by EA. While the servers remain live for now, one has to wonder just how much time it has left. I look back and pay tribute to the last "twitch"-styled shooter I ever truly loved."

Physical media. Unfortunately the way games are going these days game servers will eventually be shut down and you can stare at the menu and wish you could play the game again.

littletad883d ago

This is why reading is so important. Nothing to do with digital or physical media. The game, which is online only, is being delisted because of DDOS and other hacker attacks. The case got so bad that only six players in the world log on. For PC. Rather than fix it, they continued to sell the game, broken as it is, and only now just decided to call it quits. But please, go on thinking what you will.

Ethereal882d ago

I'm aware of the DDOS attacks and that this case is not typical. This game would eventually have it's servers shutdown regardless of the current situation so that is a moot point. My comment was in a general sense and that there are instances in which games can be preserved physically when official support ends.

Let's recap your first sentence. I said, "the way GAMES are going these days" indicating a broader stroke than just this game. I agree, reading IS important. I was simply stating the obvious downsides of the digital marketplaces and online only trends in games these days. I could even make the argument that the online only offering which has allowed hacker manipulation has impacted the preservation of this great game. My comment is valid in the general sense and thank you for your permission to continue to think what I will.
