Syrian Minister on Preserving Palmyra
Muhammad al-Shaar, the Syrian interior minister, said that the government, in cooperation with the armed forces, was trying to protect antiquities in Palmyra from the Islamic State.
(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) MOHAMAD AL-SHAAR, SYRIAN INTERIOR MINISTER, SAYING: “In cooperation with our brothers in the armed forces, we are making every effort to protect it (Palmyra), as well as in cooperation with the culture ministry, we are securing all these monuments not only in Palmyra but in all the Syrian territory.” (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) MOHAMAD AL-SHAAR, SYRIAN INTERIOR MINISTER, SAYING: “We will make all possible efforts to maintain this large stock (of antiquities) and we will give this the greatest importance because, as we said, this is the inheritance for the nation and for humanity.”
