Nothing Short of Amazing!

My history with inexpensive (read cheap, like under $40!) quad-copters was not pretty. My first one flew away, never to be seen again. I then got some smaller ones for practice, but one's battery went dead after two flights and the other had a motor go dead after three flights. I might mention that none of these flights were exactly inspiring as every time I thought I was getting decent control, I'd crash it into a tree, the ceiling, a wall or the ground.
Along came the Phantom Vision 2, complete with GPS and a 14mp camera. With my history of bad luck with quads, I was very nervous about losing or destroying my investment. This time I had watched as many videos as I could find and found a good teacher to show me the basic pre-flight routine and controls. It is very, VERY important to go through the proper routine of checking the quad, locking in on at least 6 (better yet 7 or more) satellites, letting it lock in on a "Home" position so it knows where to return to if needed, and then calibrating the compass properly. I calibrate the compass before EVERY flight, as has been suggested by a number of experts. It also has a "Return to Home" feature. If it loses signal or you get scared of losing it and turn off the controller, it is programed to go to 60 feet and fly back to the launch point. That is, IF you went through the proper pre-flight routine of setting the GPS. If you don't, it's your own fault. I haven't tried this feature yet, but have watched a number of videos that say it really does work.
After that, it was a piece of cake. My worst enemy was my own fear, but as long as I don't get over-confident and over extend my range or battery life, it is so much fun that it's hard to explain. Use a lanyard around your neck that's snapped to the controller so you don't drop it. If you get nervous, just let go of the control sticks and it will hoover in place, using GPS to remain right where it is. Utterly amazing.
It climbs much faster than it comes down, and watch your battery life! I almost lost it when I took it up to the max altitude on a windy day when the battery was getting low (yes, that was really, really stupid). It will come down automatically when the battery alarm sounds, and I had some fancy flying to do to make sure it didn't come down into some tall oak trees, but I was blessed and was able to just barely maneuver it back to my area. That was a strong lesson learned.
Imagine flying with little of no worry. Just use basic common sense, ie,don't fly around trees, towers or power lines, as the signals and electrical fields can scramble your signal. Remember that some office buildings have Wi-fi scramblers that transmit outside of their buildings to prevent industrial espionage or sabotage, and this can scramble your signals. And don't fly around people who don't want pictures taken of them or their property. It is amazing how many paranoid people are out there and think everyone wants to know their business. If they only knew how little other people care about their business, I guess it might ruin their ego, lol.
Remember to keep it updated and the FAA regulations are programed into the machine. This prevents it from flying too high (400 foot limit) to stay away from manned (or womanned) aircraft or too near airports so you don't violate any laws or fly into their airspace.

This is what you buy if you're serious enough to invest $$$ in your hobby. I tried several brands that were less expensive, with no success. My previous purchases was $499 and had to return it three different times, before I finally spent the money to get in the game. Anything less is still a toy with potential flaws and lack of technology that may lead to a loss of investment. This quad is a satisfy in one try purchase.

The quality of the Phatom 2 Drone is great. It was purchased for a gift and being complete with the camera is good, not needing to supply a camera or expect that the person already has a camera.
