Dragon Age: Inquisition – Developed Simultaneously On All Platforms, Writing Style Similar to DA: II

OnlySP: Mike Laidlaw, the creative director of Dragon Age: Inquisition is constantly being asked questions on Twitter about the game and has revealed a few minor new details about the game in the past few days.

Well I never beat Dragon Age 2 but I don't remember the writing style being bad, so that should be fine. DA2's problem was the gameplay and game world.

Regis3724d ago

It was the fact that it was only about one character and their story and the reused environments. Those were pretty much the problems.

Pintheshadows3724d ago

It wasn't even really about Hawke's story. It was more three separate stories that happened to have Hawke as the protagonist. And frankly, none of them led to much. You expected a huge crescendo and it never happened.

Last_Boss3723d ago

The environments, is what lacked.

Aleithian3724d ago

I completed it, and have to say that I strongly disliked the writing style. Conversation was boring and stilted; very little characterization developed through dialogue; unlike DA: Origins, the characters were emotionally dead; the development of the plot through text was dull and did very little to create a sense of tension and conflict; etc.

I agree that the most noticeable flaw in the game was gameplay and the world, but I can't even credit the company for coming through in the writing. About the only thing that went right for that game was the concept art. Maybe the coding, but I don't know anything about that. From what's I've seen of DA III, I won't be getting it. Disappointing - DA: Origins was one of my favorite last-gen games.

well said man, bubbles to you.

cleft53724d ago

The writing was solid and the character development was good, everything else just was clearly lacking because the game was rushed.

allgamespc20123724d ago

am sorry, how was the story solid? anything that does story telling with time curtains and a narrator is just pure lazyness. character development was good? you cant be serious dude, how on earth was it good? nobody cared about any of the characters except for the cameo ones.

Aloren3723d ago

@allgamespc2012 just cause you didn't care doesn't mean nobody did. Not everything in DA2 was bad.

I'd say the big problem of the game were the reused environment, then people disliked the obvious "waves" of enemies during combat, and the fact that the story was centered around three evebts in the life of a character instead of some epic war like Origins was.

The party members were for the most part well written and cannot be considered a flaw of DA2 imo. The dialogues were great, they just need to work on the dialog wheel to make it less cryptic. Also, the way the combat evolved was positive. It was faster and the combat gameplay was actually more enjoyable than in Origins. Too bad friendly fire was missing.

@Aloren

Agreed. The time skip, showed all the dread that surrounded the Hawke family, while enduring the dangers that infested Kirkwall. Knight Commander Meredith, made a stellar antagonist, simply because she went bat shit crazy.

Geekman3724d ago

I lost all interest in the game after seeing Monlithsofts X and The Witcher 3.

Summons753724d ago

Ouch, probably try not to do anything related to DA2.

allgamespc20123724d ago

lol this is going to go well.

da2 writing was so mundane, with amazing dialogue choices such as hell yeah! heck no!! and POUTY sarcastic face! amazing writing, so good, it blew my mind off at how amazing it was, yet it was such a horrible game in every way shape or form, i cannot see how they can even be proud to say da3 is going to be similar to crap mountain.

OC_MurphysLaw3723d ago

I must say knowing this game is cross generational has me a bit less interested.

anticlimax3723d ago

It's an RPG, that's one of those genre's where graphics are fun, but not essential. Most party based rpg's still don't match up to BG2 and I'm pretty sure the hardware in previous gen would be able to run it.

If the combat is tactical, the writing personal and the choices meaningful, it could be in 2d for all I care.

OC_MurphysLaw3723d ago

Don't get me wrong, I still have plenty of interest...just a tad less knowing they are a bit handcuffed.

Dragon Age: Inquisition Retro Review – A Nostalgic Leap Short Of Legendary

Dragon Age: Inquisition, developed by BioWare, is the third installment in the cherished Dragon Age series. It represents a major evolution from its predecessor, Dragon Age II, incorporating elements that were well-loved in the original Dragon Age: Origins but also introducing new features that stand on their own. While Inquisition improves upon Dragon Age II in many respects, it falls short of the exceptional standards set by Origins.

The quality of these free games has been awesome. Before anyone says they are not free I was already giving Amazon $6 a month for prime shipping and video this isn't why I pay for my subscription

Teflon02914d ago

Still technically paying for it, even if it wasn't your intent. They've been giving out games with Twitch prime, they just changed the name. It's the same sub as that was. If you weren't aware, great. But you're paying for it.

That being said, I don't personally care. For me as long as you're willing to pay that for 1 service and get more. I personally take it as free. Like prime video, music though the prime version is trash, and all the Twitch benefits are all free to me because I didn't care about those when I got it. Just comes with it.

Only noted because that's technically wrong as a defense to that argument, whether I'm on yourside with the initial statement lol

mkis007914d ago

It's free to anyone who has already been paying. IDK why people need to split hairs.

TinkerNation915d ago

How does Prime Gaming work? Do you keep the games, or is it only as long as you have Prime?

Germaximus915d ago

lol Nice distraction from how they're now charging people to increase viewership. It's "just an option." /wink lol
