Dark Souls II PC Graphics Options Leaked

OnlySP: A user on Reddit has just posted what is presumably the previously rumored graphics options for Dark Souls II on PC.

Wingsfan243677d ago

Here's hoping it'll look like the early builds we were shown. I'd like to see that new lighting engine in action.

gameseveryday3677d ago

From Software are not well known for PC games' development. So I will keep my fingers crossed.

Irishguy953677d ago

That lighting was taken out because response to it was bad?? Was is not? Too dark -> Require too much use of a torch -> Alienated some classes.

ISHU3677d ago

@Irishguy95 NOPE! the lighing wasn't downgraded because of too dark areas, but was downgraded to maintain a playabe framerate!

its confirmed by the developers!!

Actually, the statement directly from the developers (and not Eurogamers "source") was:

"A developer is always challenged with creating the most rewarding gaming experience while delivering continuity in graphical quality, gameplay dynamics, and balance within the game. The final version of Dark Souls 2 displays the culmination of this delicate balance and we're very proud of the positive media and fan reception for the game."

So more than likely it was a combination of framerate issues and class balancing.

Agree that would be great, but it wont :( just not how these things go. It will be a port with the usual options for higher res and antialiasing but besides that it will largely look the same on that level (edit* thats not a bad thing, imo the game on ps3 looked fine in terms of art direction etc and im eager to pick it up on pc for a second playthrough)

CyrusLemont3677d ago

Anti-aliasing just says 'On'? Wtf. You'd think developers would put in more choices. That's just lame and prevents enthusiasts from getting the best out of their systems. Unless of course I've missed something?

Wingsfan243677d ago

Don't think you missed anything. The users on Reddit thought that was odd as well. Maybe there's more custom options in a drop down menu, but as of right now can't say for sure.

WalterWJR3677d ago

you can always override the aa

Are_The_MaDNess3677d ago

you can always just use the GPU Drivers to override the AA options in the game if they are too heavy or too weak for you. rather have a higher framerate with FXAA than something like 8xMSAA......

CyrusLemont3677d ago (Edited 3677d ago )

Yeah I know, I was going to say something but typed my comment quickly. Even though you can override settings outside of the game, it's still an unnecessary obstacle. Did they keep it out because of general PC users? It is called advanced video settings for a reason haha. I'm not too fussed but when developers do this, it makes me think 'Oh, so it's just an afterthought console port' which in this case, I guess the game was intended for consoles, but that never stopped a company like Rocksteady from adding awesome additional settings in the PC counterpart of their Batman games.

Are_The_MaDNess3677d ago (Edited 3677d ago )

yay! a motion blur option! thank god.

and whats up with AF "strong" option what is strong? is 4xAF strong in the devs eyes? anything less that 16xAF today should not be. the AF performance hit is like none existent with todays specs.

impet253677d ago

I hope we can bump up the res beyond 1080p, regardless I'm a enjoy the game or rather the game is gonna enjoy whooping my ass. Lol

aa "on"

welp, another shitty port.

Hidetaka Miyazaki claims Dark Souls 2 “carried” the series forward

The game isn't good though.

Rols65d ago

DS2 was fine. While there was a bit of recycling assets or ideas for bosses, it was a bigger more open Dark Souls. The Fume knight boss is one of the hardest bosses in the series until Sekiro and Elden Ring were released.

CrimsonWing6965d ago

The problem with Dark Souls 2 was the same problem when a different director takes over for a sequel to an outstanding movie. It typically (there are exceptions) doesn’t have the feel and vision of the previous movie.

I wouldn’t say Dark Souls 2 is terrible. Had Dark Souls 1 never been a thing and we got this, I think it would have been praised more. The problem is it didn’t have the Miyazaki touch to it and felt pretty derivative. The soundtrack is a banger though.

Aussiesummer65d ago

And it will happen in the future when he doesn’t touch them as he is planning on.

MrBaskerville65d ago

I like DS 2, might even be my favorite of the 3. But it's a hard sell, there's so many obscure things you need to do to make it an enjoyable experience. So always find it hard to recommend, but it is worth the trouble.

All the bosses are only from Dark Souls. No Bloodborne, Sekiro, Elden Ring, or Demon Souls
