Transmedia archivist, lover of stories. MY WEBSITE - MY ARCHIVES
Avatar

Hello! You may notice that I have a different url. I used to be emilyhopebunny. I did a lot of transmedia archiving under that name. At this point I figure I probably won’t do much of that anymore, though I could be wrong. One never knows what the future may bring.

The present, however, has brought me back to a creative pursuit that has long been a passion of mine: choral composing. And as I started toying with the idea of developing a social media presence in that capacity, I realized that the name I wanted to use for that was actually a name I’d already used... for this. The name emilyhopebunny, in addition to using parts of my real name, is also a reference to a children’s book my mom wrote and illustrated (which has never been published). My mom passed away a few years ago, and this homage feels even more important to me now than it did when I created it. So I’m going to recycle it.

The new @emilyhopebunny blog... exists. I haven’t done much of anything with it yet, but eventually it will be a place for me to talk about my music and my compositional process and stuff like that.

As for the name transmediatrix, it’s just the word transmedia with the Latin “-trix” ending meaning roughly “(feminine) person who does thing.” I came up with it a while after I started doing transmedia under the ehb pseudonym, but I already had ehb. But now, if I ever do transmedia stuff again, I have a url for that, and also a url for archiving the work I’ve done.

(Oh, and sorry, some links on my blog are gonna be broken now, both because of the pseud change, and also because I’ve allowed the emilyhopebunny.com domain to lapse, so that website doesn’t exist anymore.)

Hello everyone!

I’ve fallen a bit behind, but I’m setting up another update for my Check Please archive, @omgeverythingplease! I’m planning on updating through the Stanley Cup story arc.

After that, I’m not going to go on to the rest of Year Four right away. Instead I’m going to repost the entire archive one last time. I’m doing this to include some new extras that belong earlier in the timeline, and to revamp all the tweet posts so that (a) they’ll all look the same, since we’ve gone through a few different phases of where I’ve been screencapping from, and (b) they’ll all include transcripts of the tweets!

Expect to see Year Three updates very soon!

Want more Lingthusiasm than a single monthly episode? Want us to answer your burning linguistics questions? Simply want to say thanks for all the free linguistics content from Lingthusiasm, All Things Linguistic, and Superlinguo and help us keep producing it in a sustainable way?

There’s now a way to do that!

We’ve set up a Patreon for Lingthusiasm. For the cost of a monthly latte, you can listen to our first bonus episode (about swearing!) right now, and access all future bonus content as it’s released. At other levels, you can ask us questions, vote on future topics, and videochat with us — while helping Lingthusiasm stay ad-free and sustainable.

After sustainability, we have some pretty cool expansion plans — interviews with guest linguists, regular bonus episodes, and even a liveshow (!!!). We’ve been blown away by the response so far — if each of our listeners gave just $1, we’d already be way past our highest goal. Check out the Patreon page to learn more about our rewards and goals.  Can’t afford to pledge? That’s okay too. We’re keeping the main episodes of the podcast free, and there are some rewards, like no ads, better mics, and guest linguists, that all listeners will benefit from. If you can’t pledge, it’s also super helpful to leave us a rating on iTunes, share this post, and recommend Lingthusiasm to anyone who needs a little more linguistics in their life.

(Regardless, do go check out the Patreon for the truly ling-tacular number of ling-manteaux that we’ve managed to squeeze into our description.)

Lingthusiasm Episode 3: Arrival of the linguists

Linguists are very excited about the movie Arrival, because it stars a linguist saving the day by figuring out how to talk with aliens. Which, if you compare it to previous linguists in film (being obnoxious to poor flower girls, for example) is a vast improvement.

In this episode of the podcast that’s enthusiastic about linguistics, Gretchen and Lauren come to you having just watched Arrival, to tell you what it got right and wrong about life as a linguist, how linguists have been reacting, and the linguists who consulted on the film. We also talk about some other books and films that feature linguistics, if Arrival caught your interest.

We also discuss what we’ve been up to lately. Gretchen is busily writing the latest draft of her book about internet English, and Lauren has just published a grammar of a language spoken in Nepal.

Here are the links mentioned in this episode:

Would you like a podcast about linguistics?

You’re in luck, because I’ve just launched Lingthusiasm, a podcast that’s enthusiastic about linguistics, co-hosted with the fantastic Lauren Gawne of @superlinguo

We’ve launched with the first three episodes, which you can see with their show notes below, and transcripts will be coming for them later in December:

  1. Speaking a single language won’t bring about world peace
  2. What’s the point of pronouns?
  3. Lingthusiasm reviews the alien linguistics film Arrival

You can listen to Lingthusiasm directly online via soundcloud or youtube, or subscribe in iTunes and most other podcast apps. You can also follow @lingthusiasm on tumblr, on twitter, or on facebook for updates.

Can’t wait to get started on this new podcast co-hosted by my friend @allthingslinguistic!

Wow! Henry Tilney has a secret tumblr??? Who knew!

I did. I knew. (One of the perks of being a transmedia archivist.)

And! I’ve been archiving his posts all along! I’ve just been setting them to private so no one could see...

UNTIL NOW.

Now that Cate herself has revealed the existence of Henry’s tumblr in her latest vlog, I’ve made all his posts in my archive public so they can be viewed chronologically with the rest of the CMC transmedia content!
