La vie de Dean est bouleversée après que son petit frère soit parti sans se retourner, le laissant seul avec leur père abusif et violent. Incapable de supporter le départ de son cadet, John Winchester se déchaîne sur le fils qu'il lui reste et va jusqu'à commettre l'impardonnable. Réduit à l'impuissance totale et persuadé que personne ne parviendra à le trouver à temps, Dean n'a plus qu'à attendre son heure. Il est surpris de se réveiller à l'hôpital quelques jours plus tard, Bobby à son chevet. Et le vieil homme semble vraiment sérieux lorsqu'il lui avoue qu'il doit sa vie à un ange prénommé Castiel.
S'ensuit un long processus de guérison à travers lequel le jeune Winchester devra trouver un nouveau sens à son existence tout en apprenant à vivre avec son plus récent trauma, mais il peut toujours compter sur Bobby et Castiel pour lui rappeler qu'il est aimé et qu'il a de la valeur. -

Dean tries to stay in the moment – fights like hell to stay in the here and now – as the lines blur and the flickers of Cold Oak encroach more insistently around him. The room fades away and he’s on his knees on the muddy ground, cold leeching through his jeans and through his veins. Sam’s blood is sticky on his fingers as he feels the wound and tries to convince Sam, already fading, that everything will be okay, because it has to be.

This is a canon-compliant fic and set somewhere in season 5 before Cas becomes their "on-demand" heal every injury with grace friend.

Or that one fic where Dean makes a deal to save Sam and goes to hell to meet the devil, only to learn that the devil isn't the incarnation of all evil like everyone thinks he is, they get out of hell together, become allies (maybe a little more) and fight the apocalypse together with the help of a jaded hunter, the devil's ex vessel and a lost ex soldier of heaven who's still conflicted on what's right and wrong. Good thing Dean's there to try and keep everything together...
