Being a veteran of the Souls series Dark Souls II even made me feel a bit overwhelmed. I've heard a lot of reviewers saying this game is more accessible to new players. My only thought is: Accessible? Ya, so is a shark's mouth if your bleeding in the ocean.

Yui_Suzumiya3703d ago

I hear it's the easiest of the three.

Grave3703d ago

I would say no to that. It's definitely much more of a challenge than Dark Souls and there are a number of different things you can do to make it even harder.

Master-H3703d ago

It's easier and harder at the same time, if that makes sense, stuff like the 10% off health each time you die, and that invasions can happen even when you're undead, kind of smarter AI, also not raising your adaptability makes it harder, while stuff like life gems make it easier, overall i think it's well balanced.

RyanShutup3703d ago

Seems harder to me... at least in the beginning when you don't have any stats or weapons... almost threw my controller a few times... -___-

Palitera3703d ago

I played for about six hours yesterday, 5 deaths: cliff, cliff, impossible jump, impossible jump again derp and a boss when cooping, at the same time he died.

It is, for now, insanely easy if you play it correctly.

My biggest grip is the frame rate. I am still in denial, refusing to believe that From Lowered their standards THIS much. I keep thinking over and over again for a a patch which will improve performance, but in the end I know it is destroyed beyond repair.

I know a lot of people have low standards and dont mind about playing at 25-27 fps the whole time, but this engine is much worse than the used on its predecessor.

Apart from that, great game.

RyanShutup3703d ago

The framerate is def a bit substandard but I've realized that it generally only happens really badly when it's loading a new area (when you pull a lever to open a huge door etc.) Def would like to see that fixed tho for sure...

Is it happening everywhere for you? I've only played a few hours and just beaten that long spider armed boss guy

Palitera3703d ago

I haven't reached this boss yet. Have done everything before the last giant and a lot of coop.

It is under 30 fps almost the whole time. When cooping, though, damn, I don't know. Maybe I was playing Bayonetta and didn't realize. hehe

I guess i'm going to have to try Dark Souls again. This will be my third time.

They just didn't seem like my cup of tea the first two times, but I'll give it one more shot before giving up the series completely.

Grave3703d ago (Edited 3703d ago )

I would say if you are having trouble in the game, try to summon phantoms to your world. The difficulty doesn't scale and more likely than not those who you summon will know their way around. Once you "get" Dark Souls and break through that wall you will be rewarded greatly.
My best advice is play Dark Souls not as a game, but imagine yourself actually standing there in that suit of armor.

CorndogBurglar3703d ago

Thanks for the advice man. I really want to like this, honestly. I've had Dark Souls for a long time now and haven't traded it in because I've always felt like I would go back to it one day and figure it out.

I guess it really does just come down to "not getting it".

Grave3703d ago (Edited 3703d ago )

I was the same exact way with Demon's Souls. I played it twice and took it back both times. Then my friend got into it and started telling me all about it. I decided to try again and let go of my preconceived notions of what a video game should or shouldn't be and let myself get lost in the Souls universe. It's amazing and there is nothing else out there like it. I wish you luck!

The prevalence of parrying: Why is it so popular?

Parrying has been creeping into more games, with almost every high-profile title of the last few years featuring it in some way.  Why?

i understand the authors frustration i'm not the best at parrying in games. not that i can't complete a game that requires it but it is a definite harder thing for me than other kinds of techniques in games. which might be the main reason it's so heavily added in games nowadays. want to make your game challenging without having to do a lot of work? just add a parry boss. (what i mean by parry boss is a boss you have to beat by parrying such that their attacks will kill you otherwise)

Dudeson39d ago (Edited 39d ago )

I always think it's fine as long as such games also have the roll/dodge panic button. But I understand the will to parry, it seems so cinematic in a fight when you pull it off.
