PLDT defeated Cagayan Valley, 25-22, 21-25, 25-23, 25-12, in the opener of the Spiker’s Turf best-of-three finals on Sunday at The Arena in San Juan.
Mark Gil Alfafara unloaded 18 points, John Vic de Guzman added 13, while Howard Mojica and Kheeno Franco chipped in 11 markers apiece for the Ultra Fast Spikers.
The Ultra Fast Hitters led in spikes (56-52), blocks (9-7) and service aces (4-2) and registered 23 excellent digs compared to just 11 by Cagayan Valley.
Marck Espejo scored 18, Peter Torres had 15 points and Jan Paglinawan added 11 for the Rising Suns.
The second match is set on Tuesday.
Philippine Air Force edged Cignal, 25-20, 21-25, 16-25, 25-23, 15-12, in the opener of the best-of-three battle for third place.
Jeffrey Malabanan scored 28 points, while Edwin Tolentino and Ruben Inaudito combined for 22 markers for the Airmen.
Lorenzo Capate Jr. led Cignal with 23 points, Alexis Faytaren and Edmar Bonono each had 15 and Reyson Fuentes contributed 13.
