'Titanfall' Is The First 'Must-Have' Game For Xbox One

For the past three months, there simply hasn’t been much of a reason to use Microsoft’s new video game console.

s8anicslayer3724d ago (Edited 3724d ago )

Having played the beta I can say that it is a great game but it's not a COD Killer! It's like people who say that every talented player in the NBA who comes along is the next MJ but doesn't quite match up because times are different and the new style of play that COD and MJ brought to the table revolutionized what we were used to at the time. All's I'm saying is Titanfall may be Kobe Bryant and will find success, but it won't be the Phenom that COD was.

You use the mech to make space. You force other players to focus you down while your team takes objectives.

EDIT: This reply was for The_Infected. Whoops

@s8anicslayer CoD died with Ghost. Cod killed itself. And to add further insult to injury, SledgeHammer is developing the next CoD while BO is pushed back to 2015.Even in it's Prime, CoD is not better than Titanfall.

3-4-53724d ago (Edited 3724d ago )

I've stopped playing COD and have been playing Battlefield 4 since it's release.

I tried this out and honestly I like COD & Bf4 a lot more.

This game is missing something and I wouldn't call it a must have, but it's not bad. Some people will love it, it wasn't really for me though.

It felt kind of empty.

Volkama3724d ago

I got the same feeling from Attrition mode, where the pilot v pilot combat felt a bit incidental and hollow.

The other modes feel more worthwhile.

But I don't think the level design makes for particularly compelling use of the parkour gameplay, at least not what I've seen so far. I'll make a concerted effort to stick to high ground later and see if it feels better, but it shouldn't need a concerted effort to exploit the fun part of the game.

USA0073724d ago

If titanfall supports competitive well, it could take cod's comp scene. Ghosts does an awful job at competitive

Unspoken3724d ago (Edited 3724d ago )

Definitely a breath of fresh air compared to COD. I'm hoping for a lot more content in the full version but everyone that plays the game exclaims how great it is.

Depending on the situation, burn cards, pilot and titan load out, you will have to determine the best use of your titan. Having a titan out immediately to hold points has many benefits, as long as one knows how to pilot it to its fullest potential. I've seen quite a few inexperienced players just running around the map and not using the games assets to their advantage.

Titanfall has the potential to become the next gen shooter, especially since it is in its first incarnation. It has a great balanced base to build off of. After listening to the sensationalist news and jealous PlayStation owners about the resolution, the game looks impressive since I went in with low expectations, especially considering it is running on a low end GPU.

COD is long in the tooth and has become very stale as they lost the flow of a balanced fps long ago. There were so many tournament style fps games which were better comparitivly speaking for their time, ie Counter Strike, Quake, Unreal Tournament and a few others. COD has no place amongst the legends, it's the aging kid that doesnt want to grow up and tries its best to stay cool.

Now if Respawn could just incorporate a few ideas from Tribes, I would invest in their company.

greatly put, there is no killing COD just because its like sports game now, every year there are millions of people who buy it and enjoy it. Its a fun game to play and because it sells so well its getting all the hate

now going with 3 years development cycle one has to believe the end product will only get better and evolve to take more risks.

TF is gonna be great no doubt but its a game you can play without buying any console

I can't get enough of the beta.

pandaboy3724d ago

Personally I had had enough after an hour.

killzone6193724d ago

had enough of looking at screenshots?

CanadianTurtle3724d ago

I can't believe you got so many dislikes for expressing your love for the game. Dang, these Sony fanboys need to get a job so they can actually afford both sides of the competition.

I truly think TitanFall is a refreshing take on the FPS genre. The execution is spot on. I can honestly say it is more satisfying than KillZone ShadowFall, BF4(aka glitch-fest 4), and Copy/Paste:Ghosts.

DarkZane3724d ago

@CanadianTurtle

Not even nearly good enough to get an xbox one, especially since people can get in on PC and 360.

It's not a system seller. To be a system seller, it would need to be on Xbox One only.

Also, this is definitely coming to PS4 at some point, no matter what Microsoft says. The money EA can make by making it multiplatform is a lot bigger than the check Microsoft is gonna be willing to pay.

christocolus3724d ago (Edited 3724d ago )

@edvin

same here. this game is amazing. i know this beta is going to shoot up pre-order numbers in the coming weeks. four of my pals decided to pre-order based on their experience with the beta. really fun game.

this game is going to have a lot of replay value, if games like halo 2,gears of war, cod :mw and battle field could keep gamers playing online for many years then i don't see why this will be any different.

DarkLord10033724d ago

It's a must have - no matter if you play on a 360, PC or ONE

jmc88883724d ago

Not a must have. Enjoyable...sure.

Has it's flaws. Behind the novelty is a mediocre game. An average experience.

Not Geo Mod 2.0. Not Frostbite 2.5/3. It's source engine holds it back. Wall running is a joke. No vertical nature of the game, unlike what was promised.

If you say the game is vertical, I expect the battle to include stuff way higher and lower where battles can ensue. If you can aim 30 feet high, that's your vertical nature of the game. Maybe 50. It's not like BF4 where at street level you can nail people at the top of a high rise or something like that. Hawken has maps in a mech game which have a lot more vertical nature then Titanfall.

Bots are frustrating. They are a detriment of the game, and have no real purpose. Sorry, trying to find 5-10-15 of them so I can get my already coming Titan 30 seconds or a minute earlier is a joke. Meanwhile they distract you from real players and give you cheap kills when a human is shooting at bots instead of you.

If people like it great. Not saying people shouldn't like it. But in terms of must have, I bought three FPS in the last 4-5 months that are more fun. I've played them a ton, and I have more fun with them.

Will I buy this? Not sure. I thought before the beta I was wary but pretty much sold. Now I highly doubt I buy it at launch. Simply doesn't seem like a game worth paying $60 for. $20, for a few decent times...okay.

$50-60 nope. Not worth it imo. Definitely not going to win FPS of the year. Not even close. This game is average. I can't stress that enough.

NoobJobz3724d ago

While I agree with some points, I think it's hard to say after a beta. It has limited maps, only one Titan (as far as I can tell), and only gets you to level 14. I'm sure once you have the full game it will be somewhat better. But I do agree about the bots. No idea what the function of them is. They don't kill anyone. Literally just a free kill for you. I'm getting bored just because I don't want to play the same maps over and over but other than that I think it has potential.

ShadowKingx3723d ago (Edited 3723d ago )

wrong post

Alex_Boro3724d ago

I can get Titanfall on Xbox 360. No major features besides graphics to make someone go out and spend $500 on Xbox One.

OpieWinston3724d ago

No major features?
How about Dedicated Servers...That's the biggest feature in any Shooter.
If you enjoy P2P and Host Advantage in shooters you love abuse.

Deividas3724d ago

Im sorry but I feel I would be fine with playing a game and not having dedicated servers and sometimes deal with the lag outs and host migrations stuff than go out there and spend over $550 to play this game just for that....

Alex_Boro3724d ago

The average consumer doesn't give 2 shits about what type of servers they're connected to. MS should provide dedicated servers considering 360 users are still paying for gold.

MysticStrummer3724d ago (Edited 3724d ago )

All three versions get the same dedicated servers.

OT - Must have… a game on three platforms, and XB1's is second best… gotcha.

OpieWinston3724d ago (Edited 3724d ago )

Thank you for proving that N46 is filled with total morons.

If you think they could just flip a switch and add integration to the Cloud on X360 then you should stick to your day job.

And the average Shooter consumer DOES care about Dedicated Servers on any competitive game.

Imagine LoL/Dota with P2P systems... Any strong competitive game sucks without dedicated servers, and Titanfall X360 version will reflect it. It's getting a two week delay because they have too do a bit more than just creating a simple port for the game.

Titanfall was also built around the dedicated server system, being able to offload certain tasks onto the servers such as the Audio. Makes things a bit more complex for Blue Castle Games.

Edit
@MysticStrummer
No they don't...because Respawn has nothing to do with the X360 version.

MysticStrummer3724d ago (Edited 3724d ago )

Yes they do. Respawn confirmed it about two weeks ago. I'll try to find the same link I posted on this same topic then but I'm not gonna look for long. Lots of games Respawn has nothing to do with will have dedicated servers, by the way.

http://www.gameinformer.com...

As of Jan 27th…
"
Respawn engineer Jon Shiring has confirmed that all three versions of Titanfall will be running on Xbox Live Compute for dedicated servers."

@Opie,

thanks for proving your an xbone fanboy...lol

OpieWinston3724d ago

Dude I play PC/X1/Wii U...If you're going to call me a fanboy because I don't buy into the BS hype that surrounds the PS4 you might as well look in the mirror.

starchild3724d ago

Not everybody has a gaming PC and a lot of people wouldn't want to play an inferior version on Xbox 360.

IVanSpinal3724d ago

Killer Instinct & Titanfall are a very good start.

Although the late 2000s Turok wasn't my favorite, I would love a new entry. Open world survival with shotguns and dinosaurs. Not sure how we'd get the fusion cannon, but that would be pretty sweet too.

MadLad598d ago

Lol

All of these games are pretty much universally praised. Outside of Timeshift I literally own all of these.

Venoxn4g598d ago (Edited 598d ago )

XIII, The Darkness 2, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Timesplitters: future perfect, Bulletstorm are awesome games

An ode to Titanfall: The last twitch shooter I'll probably ever enjoy

Windows Central: "Titanfall 1 is being sunset, taken off storefronts by EA. While the servers remain live for now, one has to wonder just how much time it has left. I look back and pay tribute to the last "twitch"-styled shooter I ever truly loved."

Respawn Entertainment is Discontinuing Sales of Original Titanfall

Sales for the original Titanfall are being discontinued.
It will be pulled from subscription services on March 1, 2022.

Ethereal879d ago

Physical media. Unfortunately the way games are going these days game servers will eventually be shut down and you can stare at the menu and wish you could play the game again.

littletad879d ago

This is why reading is so important. Nothing to do with digital or physical media. The game, which is online only, is being delisted because of DDOS and other hacker attacks. The case got so bad that only six players in the world log on. For PC. Rather than fix it, they continued to sell the game, broken as it is, and only now just decided to call it quits. But please, go on thinking what you will.

Ethereal877d ago

I'm aware of the DDOS attacks and that this case is not typical. This game would eventually have it's servers shutdown regardless of the current situation so that is a moot point. My comment was in a general sense and that there are instances in which games can be preserved physically when official support ends.

Let's recap your first sentence. I said, "the way GAMES are going these days" indicating a broader stroke than just this game. I agree, reading IS important. I was simply stating the obvious downsides of the digital marketplaces and online only trends in games these days. I could even make the argument that the online only offering which has allowed hacker manipulation has impacted the preservation of this great game. My comment is valid in the general sense and thank you for your permission to continue to think what I will.
