Summary
Two months after Arthur found out about Merlin's magic, the two could not seem to stop fighting. Frustrated by the poor state of their relationship and for still loving Merlin despite his rejection, Arthur feels trapped by his looming marriage to Mithian to settle their kingdoms' dispute over Gedref.
Meanwhile, as Uther descends into madness, he becomes convinced that his son's illicit affair with his servant is causing his reluctance to marry, and he sets Merlin in his crosshairs.
Or: Arthur has it bad and everyone notices.

“Good evening, my love! What kept you so long?” Arthur greeted him warmly as soon as he walked into the room.
“Your what now?!” Merlin blurted out wide-eyed. Surely he couldn't have heard that right.
But Arthur was unfazed by his apparent confusion and promptly planted a kiss on his lips as if it was the most natural thing in the world for him to do.
Merlin accidentally stumbles into a timeline where Arthur seems to think he is his lover, and a very affectionate one at that. Now he just has to figure out how he got there, how can he get back to his own time and why Arthur keeps thinking about poetry.
But little does he know that in this world he is a noble too and they are to be married within a month...
Or: Arthur is not emotionally constipated and Merlin doesn’t know how to deal with that.

He could see, in the corner of his eye, the tears glimmering in Gaius’ eyes that threatened to spill over. The soft smiles adorning his knights’ faces. Hear the soft gasps that escaped Gwen’s and Morgana’s lips.
With a flourish, Arthur drew his sword from its scabbard, the blade gleaming in the sunlight as he held it aloft for all to see. Everyone’s eyes fixed upon the gleaming steel, their breath held in anticipation. He placed the flat of the sword upon Merlin's shoulder, his touch sending shivers down Merlin's spine.
Just the way he wanted to do so for nearly a decade now.
OR WHERE arthur becomes the king camelot desperately needed and merlin gets the recognition he deserved. he also becomes a knight. just like he deserved to.

Merlin is the Prince of Draconia, where his actual name is Prince Emrys. (Merlin is a random name he came up with) When learning about the prophecy from Kilgharrah, he decides it is his duty to leave and go to Camelot to fulfill said prophecy. This however means Merlin has to leave behind many people he loves. Merlin finds that love expands elsewhere soon after arriving in Camelot.

Merlin was in the centre of Camelot for less than 3 days before he got himself into some bother. Apparently he has signed up to try and win Arthur's hand in marriage? At least there is a nice Maid called Gwen to help him through his trial.
Uther spoke again, “As you know, A ruler of Camelot cannot be crowned until they have found a suitable partner to help them in their rule. But as Camelot has been under threat for a while now, we cannot afford to wait any longer to find Arthur a partner. Our neighbouring countries may take too long to respond to a formal proposal, and if I pass and Camelot is left with no crowned royalty, any deranged country may try to take over our beautiful kingdom. For this reason, I am taking some drastic measures.”
Merlin began to understand why he was feeling uneasy. He turned in the cart to see if he could slip out a side entrance but saw that everywhere was blocked by knight or guard.
“I have invited you here today in a contest for my son’s hand in Marriage. We are looking for 5 suitable candidates from which Arthur will chose his betrothed. I hope to find them in this crowd.” -

A flash of relief danced across Merlin’s face, and within seconds, Merlin had swept across the room and pulled Arthur into her arms. “Merlin,” Arthur whispered with a crack of her voice, clinging to Merlin like a lifeline and burying her face into her shoulder.
“Shhh,” Merlin soothed, running a hand up Arthur’s back. Her grip was warm, firm, and gentle at the same time with an overwhelming perfume of flowers. “I’m here, I’m so sorry–”
“Don’t,” Arthur croaked, tightening her grip on Merlin’s waist. “Please don’t apologize, Merlin. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. It wasn’t your fault.”
