Background of ChangeFusion Nepal
ChangeFusion Nepal is a non-governmental organization founded in September 2008 by Luna Shrestha Thakur which channels the opportunities creatively for aspiring change makers in diverse fields within social entrepreneurship. The purpose of ChangeFusion Nepal is to identify, inspire, reward and support social entrepreneurs/ entrepreneurs who promote the development of communities and contribute to the nation building process.
Focusing on the core values of People, Planet and Profit, ChangeFusion Nepal started organizing the Surya Nepal Asha Social Entrepreneurship Award (SNASEA) for the past three consecutive years. Its programs include, Hidden Journeys Nepal which is an ongoing initiative by ChangeFusion Nepal to promote social ventures by designing inspirational tours. Moreover, its ongoing initiative is ‘A Shop with a Story’ which is a social entrepreneur’s collective store which exclusively features products from social ventures of Nepal.
Overview of the ‘Dharti’ Initiative
“धर्ति / Dharti ” in Nepali language connotes mother Earth which holds everything together.
With the catastrophic 7.8 Mw earthquake that also triggered an avalanche on the Mount Everest in 25th April 2015 resulted in thousands of casualties. Post the disastrous 25.4.2015 earthquake, ChangeFusion Nepal has launched its ‘Dharti’ initiative, targeting the vulnerable community of Bhattedadha, Dhulikhel in efforts of relief and restoration with the help from ChangeFusion Thailand and ‘Saving Nepal’ online fundraising campaign.
The earthquake struck also social ventures and many of the social entrepreneurs are at jeopardy with little hopes of revival and sustainability. Thus, ‘Dharti’ aspires to bring in the much needed stability at this hour and the team of ChangeFusion Nepal went on field visits of various ventures for preliminary phase of damage estimation before choosing the most affected area to work with.
The first visit was at Panga, Kirtipur by the team for basic assessment on 30th April, 2015 and they found that the community was proactive in providing support and relief. The team then on the next day 31st April expedited one of the most earthquake disaster struck district, Kavre and the village of Bhattedandha where the social venture set up by Fulmaya Tamang ‘Bhattedandha Women Farmers Cooperative’ is located. 100 households were severely affected with half of the houses completed ruined in debris while the other half destroyed with permanent cracks.
The team then decided to work on rebuilding the 100 households focusing not just on food and shelter but long term livelihood and sustainability. ASSESSMENT OF BHATTEDADHA
After identifying Bhattedadha as the working area for the ‘Dharti’ initiative, a community body was formed to conduct a survey as a part of our initial phase of damage assessment on 31st April itself. The survey determined the preliminary damage assessment in terms of houses, farms, livestock, health & sanitation. After quantifying the data, the summary of the survey report of Bhattedandha, Dhulikhel Municipality -1 is as follows:-

Total Population—475
Total no. of children—Below 1 yrs (5) , Between 1–5 yrs (42)
Total no. of old aged—27
Total no. of nursing mothers—2
Occupation in households—Agriculture—100, Tea Shop—4
Out of 104 households 84 are affected by the earthquake. Thus, 80.77 % of household of Bhattedandha are hit by the disaster. In terms of land and property, 4 households have neither land nor house, 5 have only houses and the remaining 95 households have land in their name.
Preliminary stage of relief distribution
They were in need of Blankets, Mattress, Tent, Charging Light, Phenyl and Mask (at least 1 for each household) and a 300 m pipe for water immediately along with food and medical provisions. The team of ChangeFusion Nepal then sat with the community members and made a list of items for preliminary stage of relief for distribution. The relief items were then distributed on 4th May, 2015 and the team then sat with community leader Fulmaya Tamang who urged us to help build temporary shelters and get back to their agricultural and farm life.
The team then went around in the village and talked with the locals for assessing their present situation and needs to devise plans ahead. After getting similar response from the villagers of Bhattedandha, that a temporary shelter was much essential which can take the rain, hail and storm, the team then met with Portal Bikes who were building sustainable shelters using tin plates and rods which assured durability and sustainability in the long run.
100 SUSTAINABLE SHELTER HOUSE INSTALLATIONS
The journey of installations of the 100 sustainable shelters commenced from May 6th where the first batch of 10 sustainable shelter houses was installed at Bhattedadha within 24 hours with the help from dedicated volunteers and the local community members. The ChangeFusion Nepal volunteers namely Shakar Shrestha, Binam Karmarcharya, Sagar Naral and Ayush Giria were responsible for installations in coordination of 15 other local volunteers led by Aakash Tamang. The team volunteers first learnt the installation process at the portal bikes workstations and then it took around 45 minutes to complete one sustainable shelter house.
The first shelter house installed was of Rekha Tamang whose house was also affected by the earthquake. Here are the before and after picture of Rekha’s house.
Subsequently on May 10th, 20 more sustainable shelter houses at Bhattedadha targeting the most vulnerable households were built with the contribution of 5 extra volunteers. Also, a follow up on the previously 10 installed shelter houses was done by the team with positive feedback from the inhabitants.
On that day, the shelter for a single woman named Urmila Tamang was built who was compelled to live in toilet for seven days after her house was destroyed. She is now immensely thankful to us for a roof over her head and plans to maintain it well.
Then on May 14th, we completed 20 more sustainable shelters at Bhattedadha marking 50 in total. We had to postpone our installation plan for a day due to another major earthquake. But we were overwhelmed with the support from the community despite the small number of our volunteers.
On May 19th, 20 more sustainable shelters were installed (12 at the nearby place called Lamidadha where all the houses were destroyed and 8 at Bhattedadha itself). This marked the completion of 70 which was a difficult walk downhill to Lamidadha and the team worked hard without even taking a lunch break. The team then decided to do a reality check on the remaining 40 houses to be built and they found that 30 shelters needed to be installed while the other 5 households had already made their own temporary shelter arrangements from bamboos and the other were comfortable in sharing the roof with others. Also, during the follow up of previous shelter houses, the locals were redesigning it with bamboos and making doors and windows as per their convenience.
Then, the final 30 batch of the sustainable shelters were installed during 22nd - 23rd May’15 with challenges of getting all the materials delivered timely. The local volunteers and our team were charged to complete the last batch and from 5 pm till sunset they worked on installations and they completed 12 houses on 22nd May. On the next day, the remaining 18 houses were built by 10 am and the jubilant team and the locals made stone hearts symbolizing 100, had lunch together, clicked pictures with different poses together, rejoiced and hugged each other. Indeed the shelter houses have brought Nepalese closer to each other and sparked unity amongst all.
On 30th May the entire team of ChangeFusion Nepal was felicitated and acknowledged by the community of Bhattedadha.
WATER PROJECT AT BHATTEDADHA
On May 15th 2015, the team of ChangeFusion Nepal took a break from constructing sustainable houses and sat in with the community people to discuss the plan ahead towards recovery. There was discussion on the issues of agriculture, children and community school, electricity and water resources. The village was facing severe water shortage as the ground water source was blocked by the earthquake. Then on May 20th, the teams sort out the drinking water problem at Bhattedadha by purchasing the necessary materials and installing pipes from the water source to doorstep of the villagers.
The day was spent getting the materials on the water site and installation of pipes and water tanks around the village. The locals had gathered around to catch the glimpse of the water in their doorstep after years of waiting desperately. When the first drop of water came through the pipes, the locals were overjoyed and it was a day for celebration. Volunteer Sagar Naral took over this project’s functioning and our follow up on next day ensured its steady operation.
INSTALLATION OF SOLAR LIGHTS FOR THE SHELTER HOUSES
The team of ChangeFusion Nepal on 31st May managed to deliver the solar lights donated by Buddharaksa foundation, MQDC, Shelldon, Concordian, DT families foundation to the village of Bhattedadha despite all the challenges at the airport. The 100 sustainable shelter houses received the lights within 2 days with the help of our volunteers and the local volunteers for installation.
On 2nd June the solar lights began to install in the village and 28 households got the facility that very day while the rest of the houses got it by the next day. The lights were easy to install, environment friendly, wireless, natural and renewable with multi-purpose applications. The group not only installed the lights but also taught the household members regarding its simple operations.
The entire village was grateful as they were facing major crisis of electricity and now with the solar option their everyday life was made much easier.
CHILDREN WELFARE AND SCHOOL RESTORATION PROJECT
During ChangeFusion Nepal’s frequent visit to Bhattedadha, children were lying idle and dull in the village without any recreational and learning activities. Thus, we decided to sit with the parents and ask them their requirements for the children’s engagement along with involving the local school in this process. Then, the team surveyed the number of children in the 100 households on May 27th from 1 month to 12 yrs of age. It was found that there were 14 toddlers between 1 month to 2 years and 55 children between 2 to 12 years. As for the younger children we decided to provide them with baby toys and baby food while a children’s club was suitable
for the older children after consulting the concerned local and school authorities. Hence, we worked on 4 areas concerning children’s welfare:-
1. Recreational Materials: On 30th May, the team of ChnageFusion Nepal as per the earlier meeting provided children with erasable slate boards, toys and baby foods as per their age group. This was done as a medium of engaging the children before their class begins at school.
The team then sat in for a meeting with the school and community representative regarding the children’s club and It was settled that for a month the children will stay outside the school compound on tents as they needed some time to resume their classroom studies.
2. School: The next step for Himal Jyoti Community School by ChangeFusion Nepal was in helping them resume studies soon by supporting them in making temporary classrooms at the compound. We brought 3 big tents and bamboos for making temporary shelters for the students, where 60 to 70 students can easily fit. And on 2nd June, we organized a health camp for the children through the help of our friends in Nepal.
Then on next phase at June 4th, we discussed the problems and the daily activities of the students which were as follows:
•The school had started their class on the ground floor and they are studying on passage but from tomorrow onwards, they will be study on temporary shelter, which is much safer.
For future, on this year 2072, the school has planned to do few things to improve the academic administration. They are planning to register school on the Government sectorso that they can get different facilities like teachers from the government quota. Else theyare considering running the school through semi-government facilitation. They want tostart volunteering service for both students and teachers at the school and as for the building maintenance, they are writing formal letter to trust. As for our part we are planning on the following steps:
•To bring the different playing things for the children from where they can gain knowledge.
•As the school has water problem, we are planning for Rain Water Harvesting.
•We will guide to school to register either on Government or in semi government.
•We will help to sustain the school by aiding in providing quality education.
•We will help on getting volunteer teachers.
3. Welfare of malnourished children: The ChangeFusion Nepal team came across two children in the village who were living in vulnerable health conditions and we decided to take them to Dhulikhel Hospital for detailed examination.
•Dewan Tamang, Dewan Tamang was born on 13th Asadh,2071 to Sunmaya Tamang and he is 11 months
old but with weight of only 5 kg. The team of CFN met this child on 27th May, 2015. We were shocked seeing this baby so we make plan to follow up this baby.
On the 2nd May, we took this baby to the hospital for blood test and X-ray as recommended by doctors there. During the blood checkup it was difficult because nurse were not being able to take out blood even in second time also. So, baby was taken to next ward again and on third time doctors were able to take out blood followed by report collection the next day. The reports confirmed it was a case of malnutrition and lack of the lack of Calcium, Iron and Vitamin which halted the bone building process. The doctors also found eye infection and handed out ointments and we prepared a food chart for the mothers:
-8 times food per day ( 2 times dal bhaat, 2 times litoo and 4 times mum breast feeding).
-2 eggs daily, if possible fruits otherwise potato, sugar and other available foods. It helps on weight increase.
On Sunday, follow up of eye check up and after 6 weeks to follow up doctor.
•Aashiqa Lama, On the 2nd May, we took Aashiqa who was 3 years and 2 months old to hospital for blood check up, thyroid checkup and X-ray and the nurse managed to take blood on the second time with difficulty. The doctors identified the malnutrition syndrome. So for her they gave a medicine to clean the stomach. The food routine prescribed is as follows:
-8 times food per day ( 2 times dal bhaat, 2 times litoo and 4 times mum breast feeding).
-2 egg, twice daily. If possible fruits otherwise potato, sugar, cereals and other available foods. It helps on increasing weight.
Follow up after 6 weeks. We have then asked the community leader Fulmaya Tamang to
oversee the children’s progress and we will facilitate their daily expenses.
AGRICULTURAL AID PROJECT

As Bhattedadha community is agro based with majority of people involved agriculture and farming, upon the request from the community in earlier meetings we planned to get them the required seeds and fertilizers. Our next major project was the pilot phase of 1200 saplings of Junar plantation which was carried out on July 2nd’15. The plantation program connected the farmers of Bhattedadha with Sindhuli and this collective step envisions transforming lives of over 3oo farming households by giving them an identity and aspiration for a sustainable livelihood in coming days.
Subsequently, on July 7th’15 ‘Dharti Farmers Club’ was formed at Bhattedadha which comprises of 20 women farmers at the initial phase after considering the member farmers interest for commercial farming along with availability of land and water resources. Additionally, it has been proposed that 6 women farmers would get a green house for nursery in the pilot phase. The members of the Dharti Farmers Club along with the remaining households received the special‘Farmers-Seeds-Kit Packages’ along with technical knowledge on plantation.

In a matter of day, one of the most beautiful country on earth turned into a desparate situation. People there can't go back into their home and must stay outside on the open air due to fear of structural damage that might cause their houses to collapse. Uncertainty rules, helps to the surviving victims are done with great difficulty.
Taejai.com volunteers to be a center to raise fund and support to help ChangeFusion Nepal, a non-profit in opeartion on the field from 2008, in helping the survival victims and help them recover from a massive tragedy. The support will focus on those communities that have difficulty reaching normal helps or on issues that have great needs.
The goal of ChangeFusion Nepal is to identify and support remote rural villages that partially or almost totally collpased as many of houses are built from fragile material. These areas receive relatively lower support compare to those in central areas such as Katmandu. The team will work with the community to address urgent needs, especially on housing / haitat issues, safety and health. The objective is to help them acheive critical self-reliance and to explore livelihood and agriculture in the near future.

Luna Shrestha Thakur the founder ofChangeFusion Nepal said (I summarised from a call with her) big aftershocks are still common, people are very frightened and had not be in their home for the third days, fearing collapse and potential new big aftershock, so they have to stay together in open space / tents. No running water, electricity in major areas, perhaps 1/4 of Katmandu buildings are broken in one way or the other.

There are many more people trapped under debris of houses and building, the rescue efforts are done with great difficulty both in term of searching for them and to bring them out. There is a heavy need of medicines as many areas people who can't get back to their houses are living together in a very confined space, sanitation and hygiene issues become troublesome with great risk for infectious diseases in the near future.
She said Katmandu and Nepal, especially in affected areas, will never be the same, no one seriously believe this level of earthquake could happen. But people are also coming together and support each other in such a way that create a true sense of community. (Nepal just got out of a major civil war few years ago)
Some rural villages are almost gone, partially or largely collapsed as they are built not strong enough to withstand such earthquake, and support to those areas are very limited compare to Katmandu. They truly hope that once the aftershocks completely stop, they can go back to their homes and resume their activities.
She also said that people suddenly appreciates the value of life much more than they used to.

The efforts of ChangeFusion Nepal for re-stabilization and restoration of the Bhattedandha village continues with a preliminary phase survey after the 25.4.2015 Nepal Greater Earthquake. Today, the local body of the Bhattedandha community sent us a report of their household and population details hoping for relief.
After quantifying the data, the summary of the survey report of Bhattedandha, Dhulikhel Municipality -1 is as follows:-

In order to address to the requirements of the Bhattedandha locals, ChangeFusion Nepal team today had a meeting which included their supporters, social entrepreneur’s and volunteers. They have started making lists of the items along with purchasing the first lot which is to be distributed to the most affected areas of Bhattedandha tomorrow.
Also, as ChangeFusion Nepal works closely with the social entrepreneur’s the meeting was done as a part of mapping the social entrepreneurs and their present statuses in Nepal. They will then outline how the earthquake has affected their lives and ventures and how can they all corroborate to help each other at this difficult hour. The social entrepreneurs present were Sunita Nemaphuki, Sita Tamang and Shanti Dolma Shakya.
1 Sunita Nemaphuki ( R$D Innovative Solution): Sunita started an agriculture based magazine – Krishak ra Prabidhi, with the objective of improved information flow between the farmers and the market. The organization has also initiated Krishi Club, a practical information center and platform for farmers to share and network.
2 Sita Tamang (The Candlestick Women): Initiated by Sita Tamang who migrated from Rolpa in seek of better prospects, ‘The Candlestick Women’ now lights the household of many women through its scented candle making skills.
1 Shanti Dolma Shakya (Kakani Himalayan Natural Dyes): The venture addresses the health problems and environmental impact created by artificial dyes. Shanti has been running her venture for 3 years and has been delivering quality natural products.
This collective effort from the community and our team will be intensive focusing on achieving both short and long term goals. The journey of installations of the 100 sustainable shelters commenced from May 6th where the first batch of 10 sustainable shelter houses was installed at Bhattedadha within 24 hours with the help from dedicated volunteers and the local community members. The ChangeFusion Nepal volunteers namely Shakar Shrestha, Binam Karmarcharya, Sagar Naral and Ayush Giria were responsible for installations in coordination of 15 other local volunteers led by Aakash Tamang. The team volunteers first learnt the installation process at the portal bikes workstations and then it took around 45 minutes to complete one sustainable shelter house.
The first shelter house installed was of Rekha Tamang whose house was also affected by the earthquake. Here are the before and after picture of Rekha’s house.
Subsequently on May 10th, 20 more sustainable shelter houses at Bhattedadha targeting the most vulnerable households were built with the contribution of 5 extra volunteers. Also, a follow up on the previously 10 installed shelter houses was done by the team with positive feedback from the inhabitants.
On that day, the shelter for a single woman named Urmila Tamang was built who was compelled to live in toilet for seven days after her house was destroyed. She is now immensely thankful to us for a roof over her head and plans to maintain it well.
Then on May 14th, we completed 20 more sustainable shelters at Bhattedadha marking 50 in total. We had to postpone our installation plan for a day due to another major earthquake. But we were overwhelmed with the support from the community despite the small number of our volunteers.
On May 19th, 20 more sustainable shelters were installed (12 at the nearby place called Lamidadha where all the houses were destroyed and 8 at Bhattedadha itself). This marked the completion of 70 which was a difficult walk downhill to Lamidadha and the team worked hard without even taking a lunch break. The team then decided to do a reality check on the remaining 40 houses to be built and they found that 30 shelters needed to be installed while the other 5 households had already made their own temporary shelter arrangements from bamboos and the other were comfortable in sharing the roof with others. Also, during the follow up of previous shelter houses, the locals were redesigning it with bamboos and making doors and windows as per their convenience.
Then, the final 30 batch of the sustainable shelters were installed during 22nd - 23rd May’15 with challenges of getting all the materials delivered timely. The local volunteers and our team were charged to complete the last batch and from 5 pm till sunset they worked on installations and they completed 12 houses on 22nd May. On the next day, the remaining 18 houses were built by 10 am and the jubilant team and the locals made stone hearts symbolizing 100, had lunch together, clicked pictures with different poses together, rejoiced and hugged each other. Indeed the shelter houses have brought Nepalese closer to each other and sparked unity amongst all.
On 30th May the entire team of ChangeFusion Nepal was felicitated and acknowledged by the community of Bhattedadha.
WATER PROJECT AT BHATTEDADHA
On May 15th 2015, the team of ChangeFusion Nepal took a break from constructing sustainable houses and sat in with the community people to discuss the plan ahead towards recovery. There was discussion on the issues of agriculture, children and community school, electricity and water resources. The village was facing severe water shortage as the ground water source was blocked by the earthquake. Then on May 20th, the teams sort out the drinking water problem at Bhattedadha by purchasing the necessary materials and installing pipes from the water source to doorstep of the villagers.
The day was spent getting the materials on the water site and installation of pipes and water tanks around the village. The locals had gathered around to catch the glimpse of the water in their doorstep after years of waiting desperately. When the first drop of water came through the pipes, the locals were overjoyed and it was a day for celebration. Volunteer Sagar Naral took over this project’s functioning and our follow up on next day ensured its steady operation.
INSTALLATION OF SOLAR LIGHTS FOR THE SHELTER HOUSES
The team of ChangeFusion Nepal on 31st May managed to deliver the solar lights donated by Buddharaksa foundation, MQDC, Shelldon, Concordian, DT families foundation to the village of Bhattedadha despite all the challenges at the airport. The 100 sustainable shelter houses received the lights within 2 days with the help of our volunteers and the local volunteers for installation.
On 2nd June the solar lights began to install in the village and 28 households got the facility that very day while the rest of the houses got it by the next day. The lights were easy to install, environment friendly, wireless, natural and renewable with multi-purpose applications. The group not only installed the lights but also taught the household members regarding its simple operations.
The entire village was grateful as they were facing major crisis of electricity and now with the solar option their everyday life was made much easier.
CHILDREN WELFARE AND SCHOOL RESTORATION PROJECT
During ChangeFusion Nepal’s frequent visit to Bhattedadha, children were lying idle and dull in the village without any recreational and learning activities. Thus, we decided to sit with the parents and ask them their requirements for the children’s engagement along with involving the local school in this process. Then, the team surveyed the number of children in the 100 households on May 27th from 1 month to 12 yrs of age. It was found that there were 14 toddlers between 1 month to 2 years and 55 children between 2 to 12 years. As for the younger children we decided to provide them with baby toys and baby food while a children’s club was suitable
for the older children after consulting the concerned local and school authorities. Hence, we worked on 4 areas concerning children’s welfare:-
1. Recreational Materials: On 30th May, the team of ChnageFusion Nepal as per the earlier meeting provided children with erasable slate boards, toys and baby foods as per their age group. This was done as a medium of engaging the children before their class begins at school.
The team then sat in for a meeting with the school and community representative regarding the children’s club and It was settled that for a month the children will stay outside the school compound on tents as they needed some time to resume their classroom studies.
2. School: The next step for Himal Jyoti Community School by ChangeFusion Nepal was in helping them resume studies soon by supporting them in making temporary classrooms at the compound. We brought 3 big tents and bamboos for making temporary shelters for the students, where 60 to 70 students can easily fit. And on 2nd June, we organized a health camp for the children through the help of our friends in Nepal.
Then on next phase at June 4th, we discussed the problems and the daily activities of the students which were as follows:
•The school had started their class on the ground floor and they are studying on passage but from tomorrow onwards, they will be study on temporary shelter, which is much safer.
For future, on this year 2072, the school has planned to do few things to improve the academic administration. They are planning to register school on the Government sectorso that they can get different facilities like teachers from the government quota. Else theyare considering running the school through semi-government facilitation. They want tostart volunteering service for both students and teachers at the school and as for the building maintenance, they are writing formal letter to trust. As for our part we are planning on the following steps:
•To bring the different playing things for the children from where they can gain knowledge.
•As the school has water problem, we are planning for Rain Water Harvesting.
•We will guide to school to register either on Government or in semi government.
•We will help to sustain the school by aiding in providing quality education.
•We will help on getting volunteer teachers.
3. Welfare of malnourished children: The ChangeFusion Nepal team came across two children in the village who were living in vulnerable health conditions and we decided to take them to Dhulikhel Hospital for detailed examination.
•Dewan Tamang, Dewan Tamang was born on 13th Asadh,2071 to Sunmaya Tamang and he is 11 months
old but with weight of only 5 kg. The team of CFN met this child on 27th May, 2015. We were shocked seeing this baby so we make plan to follow up this baby.
On the 2nd May, we took this baby to the hospital for blood test and X-ray as recommended by doctors there. During the blood checkup it was difficult because nurse were not being able to take out blood even in second time also. So, baby was taken to next ward again and on third time doctors were able to take out blood followed by report collection the next day. The reports confirmed it was a case of malnutrition and lack of the lack of Calcium, Iron and Vitamin which halted the bone building process. The doctors also found eye infection and handed out ointments and we prepared a food chart for the mothers:
-8 times food per day ( 2 times dal bhaat, 2 times litoo and 4 times mum breast feeding).
-2 eggs daily, if possible fruits otherwise potato, sugar and other available foods. It helps on weight increase.
On Sunday, follow up of eye check up and after 6 weeks to follow up doctor.
•Aashiqa Lama, On the 2nd May, we took Aashiqa who was 3 years and 2 months old to hospital for blood check up, thyroid checkup and X-ray and the nurse managed to take blood on the second time with difficulty. The doctors identified the malnutrition syndrome. So for her they gave a medicine to clean the stomach. The food routine prescribed is as follows:
-8 times food per day ( 2 times dal bhaat, 2 times litoo and 4 times mum breast feeding).
-2 egg, twice daily. If possible fruits otherwise potato, sugar, cereals and other available foods. It helps on increasing weight.
Follow up after 6 weeks. We have then asked the community leader Fulmaya Tamang to
oversee the children’s progress and we will facilitate their daily expenses.
AGRICULTURAL AID PROJECT
7. AGRICULTURAL AID PROJECT
As Bhattedadha community is agro based with majority of people involved agriculture and farming, upon the request from the community in earlier meetings we planned to get them the required seeds and fertilizers. Our next major project was the pilot phase of 1200 saplings of Junar plantation which was carried out on July 2nd’15. The plantation program connected the farmers of Bhattedadha with Sindhuli and this collective step envisions transforming lives of over 3oo farming households by giving them an identity and aspiration for a sustainable livelihood in coming days.
Subsequently, on July 7th’15 ‘Dharti Farmers Club’ was formed at Bhattedadha which comprises of 20 women farmers at the initial phase after considering the member farmers interest for commercial farming along with availability of land and water resources. Additionally, it has been proposed that 6 women farmers would get a green house for nursery in the pilot phase. The members of the Dharti Farmers Club along with the remaining households received the special‘Farmers-Seeds-Kit Packages’ along with technical knowledge on plantation.
