If you're an expert at WordPress - at least in some way - then we're interested in talking to you! As we start the new year, we're in need of a few new, terrific authors to help us publish content on Wptuts+ for at least one-to-four times per month.
Specifically, you'll be expected to submit at least one article a month, and you're free to choose your topic as long as it appeals to the audience. Regardless of if you're someone who considers themselves a beginner, an intermediate, or an advanced user, we're interested in hearing from you!
Note that this is a paid gig, so if you're looking write as well as make some money, then read on!
What We're Looking For
Previously, we've always asked for "WordPress experts" when it comes to sharing articles and tutorials - and this is still true; however, we believe that if you're involved with building things using WordPress - regardless of how many years you've been doing it - then you've likely got something to share.
In short, we're looking for people who have something interesting, useful, and practical to share with our audience. Furthermore, we believe that everyone who has done a bit of development work with WordPress has something to share.
After all, some people are just getting started with WordPress; others have been at it for sometime - we all have something to share, and we all have something to learn.
Here are the requirements:
- Knowledge, High Quality. Wptuts+ is a highly respected source of information and we expect the same high quality from you.
- Excellent Writing Skills. You must be comfortable with the English language. We can proof your content, offer suggestions, and even work with some of the minor details of English, but we can’t rewrite everything for you. To put it simply, if you struggle when deciding whether to write its or it’s, this might not be the gig for you.
- Consistency. Professionalism is absolutely key here. We expect you to keep the schedule we’ve agreed upon.
But wait! If you're not interested in an official staff writer position, but still want to contribute tutorials, read the next section, as we're also looking for individual content pitches.
Can I Pitch Individual Articles & Tutorials?
Of course! We’re always accepting individual tutorial and article pitches for the rates posted below. Check out our Write For Us page for more information about sending in individual tutorials and articles, or just fire away at our content-pitch form.
Repeat authors will always receive preferential publishing status and higher overall article rates, but if you’ve just got one great idea that you want to share, send it our way!
Even if you're skeptical as to if your idea is something that's worth sharing, let us know! If it's something that needs a bit more work or requires finer points to discuss, we're happy to work with you to further develop the idea.
What's The Pay?
- $150 per tutorial for the first month.
- $175 per tutorial from the second month onwards, with a pay review after six months.
- $60 per Quick Tip
- $300-$500 for “Premium” level tutorials/screencasts
So, assuming you submit an article a week, and one large tut/screencast per month, you can expect to make between $1000 – $1200 each month.
Are You Looking For Any Special Topics?
Always! If you're able to focus your efforts on one (or a set of) any of the following topics, you'll get extra consideration:
- WordPress 3.7+ Specific Tutorials
- Your Favorite Code Snippets (custom blocks of useful homebrew code)
- Theme Development tips, tricks, or tutorials
- Plugin Development tips, tricks, or tutorials
- In-depth Standards, Best Practices, and other “WordPress Culture” type articles
If your idea isn't in the list above, no sweat - submit it anyway and we'll go from there!
Excellent! Where Do I Sign Up?
We’ll need the following information from you:
- Name
- A few sentences about you
- A single link to an article that you’ve written, helped with, or that you like
- Two ideas for tutorials you’d like to write for us
- Emails with an optional tutorial as attachment will get more attention from us since this means you’re serious about the gig
- Preferential treatment (and higher pay) given to those who can record professional quality screencasts. There are guidelines on what we expect here on our Write For Us page too

After two years as the Editor for Wptuts+, my role at Envato is changing. It's been an amazing time, and I've appreciated the opportunity to help guide the site and spend time with our many fantastic contributors.
It can be hard to hand something you've put a lot of work into over to someone else, but I'm very pleased to be able to leave the site in Tom's capable hands. I'm excited to see where he takes things.
I'll now be focussing on my role as WordPress Evangelist, and a number of other special projects within the Marketplace Team at Envato.
I'd like to thank you all for the fun times, 2014 is going to be an incredible year here at Envato, both on Tuts+ and the Marketplaces.
