If not for stepping inside a Jaeger, Charlie would have never known what he’d wanted to say to him. He should’ve made it tangible. The drift was no excuse.
Chuck and Herc’s relationship had been a frayed, unmendable thing since Scissure. Herc doesn’t believe he’s ever been a parent, and yet his son leaves him with a grandchild after his death. Granted, the whole child ordeal was a more-than-unwelcome surprise to Chuck, and he really hadn’t meant to leave his old man with a kid. But he'd chosen to save the world in its desperate time of need.

“How’s that?” Raleigh asked, eyes still glued to the picture of him and Chuck. He didn’t smile much anymore, always cross in the press conferences. Raleigh wondered what had happened to the grinning teen he used to know.
“There’s this look in their eyes.”
He cast a glance over his shoulder at Pentecost and found the Marshal already gazing at him.
“You asked why I’m here?”
“Yes, especially when you know what…what I was like.”
Pentecost smiled, “That look is still in your eyes, Raleigh. I’m here to offer you a second chance.”

Summary
When high profile striker Chuck Hansen does the unthinkable and makes the transfer from his father's club, Arsenal, to their rivals Chelsea FC, he discovers his lifelong crush, former star winger Raleigh Becket, now works as Chelsea's head physio.
This is what Chuck expects: he'll make a name for himself away from Herc's shadow; he'll easily wrack up points for Chelsea and they'll win the Premier League. And the Champions League. And the FA Cup for good measure; Raleigh Becket will want him in return and the sex is going to be eipic.
This is what happens instead: Chuck's relationship with his father falls completely to pieces; he can't seem to score and quickly learns exactly how much it sucks to be benched; Raleigh Becket is literally the most morose loser Chuck has ever encountered.
At least the sex is good. Not that they talk about it. Raleigh may be hotter than sin, but thank God Chuck doesn't actually like the guy.
