CHICAGO –A University of Illinois – Chicago student was charged with sexually assaulting a female student during what he told police was a re-enactment of “Fifty Shades of Grey.”

Police say 19-year-old Mohammad Hossain was in his dorm room around 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

The alleged sexual assault happened inside Hossain’s UIC dorm room. The criminal complaint says Hossain and the 19-year-old female student did have an intimate relationship in the past. He allegedly told her to take off her clothes which she did.  He then tied her up with belts, covered her eyes and struck her with a third belt.

When she said stop, prosecutors say Hossain hit her with his fists, held her down and raped her. At one point, they say he kept his roommate from coming in the room.  The alleged victim was able to leave shortly afterward.

Hossain was arrested at another dorm Saturday night by UIC police after the young woman contacted them.

Students on campus are disturbed by the incident.

“It’s crazy that he would allow a movie to make him do something like that or even make him think that it’s okay to do something like that to another person,” said UIC student Monet Felton.

Hossain says the incident was consensual.  He is being held on $500,000 bail and is due back in court March 13.

UIC says it is cooperating fully in this investigation.
