Severus Snape might have loathed Hermione Granger’s know-it-all tendencies, but Emma Watson had nothing but love for Alan Rickman, who played the Hogwarts potions master in eight Harry Potter films.

“I’m very sad to hear about Alan today,” Watson wrote on her Facebook page. “I feel so lucky to have worked and spent time with such a special man and actor. I’ll really miss our conversations. RIP Alan. We love you.”

J.K. Rowling and Daniel Radcliffe also paid tribute to the actor, with Radcliffe calling him “undoubtedly one of the greatest actors I will ever work with.” Rickman died Thursday at the age of 69.
